Hyrule Kingdom map

I don't need to read a post about someone who was obviously breaking the law to know the law. That is what law books are for.

The names only need be changed. Not the look. Which I already pointed out in my last post.

It is not illegal to mimic.

Tell me, then: how was that mod different to this mod regarding the law? Besides, the point still remains that there's no real reason to make Hyrule if you don't call it Hyrule- you wouldn't be able to refer to Hyrule in any way, shape or form, so anyone looking for a Zelda mod would skim right over it. Why? Because it wouldn't be a Zelda mod.

Companies have been getting away with this sort of thing in their advertisements for a very long time.

A recent sub commercial I saw is a good example. I think it was from Quiznos. It shows a guy from "Wrongway" making subs, his uniform is very close to, but not exactly like Subways uniform, the menu, everything is very close, but not exact.

I'm afraid I've never heard of Quiznos or Wrongway, because I'm not American- I'm British. So I can't really respond to that, except to say: how different are the uniforms in fast food places, really? Of course it's going to be similar. And has it occurred to you that Subway probably didn't bother copyrighting their uniform? It's only copyright infringement if there's a copyright to infringe upon.

From what your profile says, you're also not an adult. So you have not had the time to learn an understand the laws the way that I have.

I've been in and out of court for most of my life, but I have NEVER been convicted of anything because I know and understand the laws.

Quit replying to my posts for the sole purpose of winning the argument.

I've told him how to create the mod to be legal. I'm sure people would download this mod even if the names were changed.

I know I would.

On the search point of the mod. He would have to spell it Hyrule'l or some variance and it would still be found if someone were to search for hyrule.

Since the name is not in fact "Hyrule" though, it would not be breaking the law.

Ok, can you guys please not argue in my topic? I hate to have that around. Besides, changing the names are not protected under copyright laws. Sorry, Terminator, I totally disagree with you. At least Suzarn is smarter than you, I obviously have to state. So if I have different names, then that's not breaking the law.

Terminator, if I were you, I would read the copyright laws page as I just did earlier. I really hope this thread doesn't turn into a debate. I had problems at another site, and I DON'T need any here. If the argument keeps up, the heat has to go on you(Terminator), I'm afraid. Enough.

Plus, you wanna know why the mod projects, MEMod, and LOTR ended up going to court? Is because they probably used the same exact names! This does NOT have to do with the looks. THAT'S how they got their lawsuits. You don't believe me, check the copyright page as I mentioned.

From the screenshots you posted, it looks as if you've already gotten a good bit of work done. As has already been mentioned, there has yet to be a successful Oblivion Total Conversion. I'm sure you're taking that into account, so I won't dwell on it. In fact, I believe that you are much more likely to succeed because you're working on a tight schedule (no time for slacking), and doing so alone (fewer points of failure).

The screenshots you've posted are quite impressive; I'm under the impression that you really know what you're doing. If this all pans out, the first Oblivion TC would be a Zelda TC. I'll bet nobody was expecting that!

Good luck to you!

Thanks! I bet nobody got this opportunity before TP came out, and I might be the first one to clone the map(I will have to change the names), and I feel great for it. No doubt I'm gonna succeed, because I don't rush my time as I used to with flash movies for another site. I find that mods are quite more fun. Anyway, if you have any new names for it, or new ideas, let me know! :)

Also, I'll host new screens later.

Btw : Suzarn, how about 'the Hyrul Kingdom' for a title? Would that work?

For starters, Nintendo is not as strict as other companies when it comes to fans using thier copywrited material. As a matter of fact several years ago one industrious fan programed the entire Legend Of Zelda game engine from scratch(its called Zelda Clasic, I recomend you guys check it out some time) And there are entire sites dedicated to uploading game sprites. That being said, did you ever consider contacting Nintendo to ask for thier permision?

I actually thought about starting a LOZ TC a couple of mounths ago. I decided against it mainly because I know how long these things can drag on for, and Im already working on a project that I refuse to give up on. However I did do a lot of brainstorming on it, and I might be inclined to offer a bit of help.

The only problem with naming "hyrul" would be if someone were to just search for "hyrule", your mod would not be found.

Searches are generally performed as *text-to-search-for*. So only files containing the complete word "hyrule" anywhere in their text would be found.

So "thehyrulekingdom" would be found with a search of "Hyrule", but "thehyrulkingdom" would not be found.

The best thing to do, would be to try and add a letter before or after the word Hyrule.

It doesn't even have to be anything that is seen as a different way to read the word.

Like most people that try to register common names on popular video games will alter the name they want by adding extra letters of the same type to each end of the word.

EX: If someone wanted to register my name "Suzarn" and they found it was taken, they could use "xSuzarnx", which is still obvious to whoever reads it, that it is meant to be read as "Suzarn."

Both name variations would still be found by a search engine if only "Suzarn" were searched for.
