Terminal hacking issue

I'm having a problem with the hacking mini-game which ruins it completely. Unlike the way it works when it DOES work as intended, I get one word to choose from. Only one, always the password.

 

I don't have any perks that affect hacking, and I know that even with 100 Science, this shouldn't happen.

Starting a new game fixes the issue (maybe only temporarily?), but then, I'm deep into Lonesome Road, and I'd hate to reset my progress.

 

You've got the list of active plugins, does any of them have a side effect I don't know about?

You mean besides the side effects of stealing games rather than buying them? ... ... *crickets chirping* Ha ha ha .. Ha ha ha.. Oh man sorry, I had to say that, it was funny though, I laughed. Your attached file is useless. I don't want to download whatever junk that might be. You could have just pasted the load order in the post. What is in the download isn't your actual load order, if it is it's very incorrect even then it's incomplete. To answer your question. Yes there is something in the pile of trash you installed called mods that has broken the game.

Actually, that just seems to be all your mods in alphabetical order <img src="http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/confused.gif" alt=":confused:" class="bbc_emoticon"> You must've clicked the Bar directly above the load order (The one that says File) Click the button on the top of FOMM (Load Order) and then click BOSS Auto Sort. If that dosen't fix your issue then (once again) Click Load Order, on the top, but then click COPY TO CLIPBOARD, and paste it here on the forums. Edited September 23, 2011 by GothikaGeist

okay, i'm also having this issue. i'm guessing it might be caused by a mod i installed a long time ago. i use boss auto sort, and my game is (afaik) legit.

 

i remember installing the 'terminals use hud color nv' mod (http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37722) and uninstalling it after some time, but it's only two xml files in data/menus, so that shouldn't be the problem.

 

tried starting a new game, it didn't help. i've also tried disabling 'the weapon mod menu' and 'the mod configuration menu', since those have something to do with xml files, but that didn't solve it either.

 

soo, is there a workaround for this? if not, please just point me in the right direction. i don't really want to reinstall my entire game just because of this..

oh, one more thing: help me or don't, but please don't start telling me i'm a complete idiot for not doing a compelte reinstall or that i have too many mods. i've never had a serious conflict before, simply because i actually read the readmes and pay attention to what i'm doing.

since then i tried turning off all of my mods. didn't help though. unfortunately, only about half of them were installed through the package manager, so some of them might have loose files around.

 

if i come to a solution, i'll definitely post it here, but until then, does anyone have any idea of what's going on?

These are known to cause many problems.

i didn't know they cause problems. iirc i have those because i pre-ordered the game. i'll try switching them off, but i had them from the start, and the hacking bug only appeared recently..

well, that didn't change anything. anyway, the fallout wiki says they can cause major lags, so thanks anyway, i'll leave them disabled.

Run FNVEdit and let it load your entire load order. Once it's done loading, check to see what plugin is overriding the Game Setting iHackingMaxWords. I'm willing to bet it's Nevada Skies.

you're an absolute genius, sir. i did, and in fact it is nevada skies. now that i remember it, i recently updated it to a new version. i hope there'll be a fix soon, i love that mod.
