Is there a compilation mod?

There are so many mods out there, I think literally in the thousands. Finding all the good ones, installing them, and tweaking the files so they are compatible is very time consuming. I've seen mods for other games that have started compiling all the popular/well-made mods into one easy painfree download, and I'm wondering if there's such a thing for Oblivion.

The big problem with compilation mods is that whoever makes it will need the permission of every author who's mods he includes. Many will refuse to give permission as they will no longer have control of their mods. The aggregator will get all of the credit for the downloads instead of the real author. And as that credit is the only pay these authors get for their work - That ain't gonna fly. :whistling:

Others are no longer supporting ther mods, and still others have already said their mods are off limits for this. Then, the first time there is a problem or update with any one mod, or the original mod author makes a fix. You will be SOL until the aggregator goes back and redoes the entire compilation.

With well over 20,000 mods, any compilation like what I assume you are looking for will have at least several mods that you would rather not have, and several not included that you would like. So you will want to add the mods you want - and then, because it is a compilation, you will not be able to set the load order and will be unjustly upset with the maker of the new mod because you will want to blame them for something that is actually the fault of the aggregator. :wallbash:

A lot of mods have options that must be selected when you install the mod. And the use of particular options may depend on your hardware. Just because a set of mods worked well on one computer that doesn't mean it will work just as well on another with entirely different specifications. Different video cards, different background processes, different amounts of ram all contribute to the problem of incompatibility.

People have from time to time attempted to make lists of mods that worked together for them. But again, as soon as you add a new mod that list is useless.

The best thing we do have is BOSS, a program that attempts to set load order, and in most cases does it very well. But it is still not perfect and a human must still make some decisions as to load order.
