ShaggySugarBear
I am thinking about buying either Fallout 3 or New vegas for PC so I can play with mods, Even though I like New Vegas a bit better, I have found myself playing Fallout 3 more than vegas recently, so I am kind of in a mix of which one I should buy for PC for modding, I wan't the one with the better mods and don't wan't to get bored playing it quickly. WastelandAssassin
well that is not an easy thing to answer, but i'll try to give you my opinion first of all, both of these games are great, and are fun even without mods (though mods make them so much better, if you know the right mods to use)Fallout 3, in my opinion, has a much better main quest, as it is so much more interesting and evolving, though the lack of real options is a bit of a pain, as it gets boring to do the same thing over and overhowever, one large advantage of it is Broken Steel's feature that prevents the game from ending after completing the main quest, which allows you to get a full free run of the game, which you could play for as long as you want (probably until you are bored out of your mind from it) now, New Vegas, on the other hand, has many many new mods, some are quite amazing, and the game that already has lots of awesome features, now has even more great features, which is always nicei think that the mods for New Vegas that exist for FO3 as well, are better, more enhanced versions, and their quality is much higher, due to lessons learned and all, which results in more stable and much more amazing mods for you to usealso, the community is still working on many New Vegas mods, so you should find new stuff from time to time, when in FO3, new content will be hard to find (at least harder than for New Vegas) as i stated before, this is a rather tough choice, and i can't really tell you what to dowhat i am doing, is using both games, and i am trying to use Requiem For Capital Wasteland, which allows you to access the Capital Wasteland from New Vegas, which basically combines the two gamesso if you could do the same, i think you will have an amazing time playing it on a final note, i should also say that in FO3, although there were 5 DLC packs, only one was really amazing, two others were rather good, and the remaining two were rather bad, at least in my opinionhowever, out of New Vegas' 4 DLCs, i enjoyed all 4 of them, and i feel that they were far far better, had a much more evolved story, and they all lead to the conclusion in Lonesome Road, while in FO3, the DLCs weren't connected at allso at least in the case of the DLCs, New Vegas wins big time in my opinion hope this helps you make your choiceand if you want one more advice, go to the two Fallout sites on the Nexus, and look at the many mods around here (i would suggest the Top 100 page, as it shows the most loved mods around)look at what you can have, and see what you'd want more on your PC, and that should help you decide what to do
Shantih
Both games get loads of mods. The real difference is in the gameplay and the story. I prefer FNV because of things like DT and the better writing but it all comes down to personal choices. I prefer FNV when it comes to the main quest because you have more freedom but it's a matter of opinion. You will get better answers if you explain what you're looking for. Do you want quest mods or more items? Bear in mind that most modded items that have been made for Fallout 3 have been ported (or can be ported) to FNV. Fallout 3 has some outstanding quest mods like Mothership Zeta but FNV has New Vegas Bounty 1 and 2, quests like The Most Dangerous Game and Decisions with Regrets, Dog City Denver and A World of Pain to name but a few. Check out the mod threads on the Nexus and you'll get a fair idea. Edited September 28, 2011 by Shantih
