Deleted472477User
try a different browser so, are you saying the browser is the only issue, or she should try that first? I have ie and Firefox, and I have the same issues from time to time. I'll suggest Firefox to her as a possibility because I think she has ie
buddah
Older versions of IE are problematic.......my corporate laptop will let me access the sites fine, but it lags badly on the forums.
Thandal
I use IE9 (mostly, I have FF and Chrome as well.) Shortly after the site transition last month I made the mistake of leaving "Compatibility Mode" on for the main sites (which breaks them) and then after fixing that by turning it off, realized that for the Forums, it needs to be ON, or many of the drop-downs just cycle back to their default page. (For those who don't know, the "Files Section", the Forums, and the Chat Area, are all powered by different software.) Deleted472477User
quick update. DunmerMaiden has IE 9. Google Chrome is giving the same errors. Firefox gives a "the connection has timed out...Nexus is taking too long to respond" error. There shouldn't be all these hassles. Her browsers are as up to date as it gets. She has a good computer system. Well, since the files section seems to work, different software or no, I'm thinking the problem is in Nexus, not her browser, especially since she's done everything humanly possible to make it work. Her feeling on this is "It wasn't broke before, but now it is." thanks for the answers. also, Thandal, can you explain how to do what you suggested? I'm unsure and so is she and we'd rather not mess it up more. Assume you're walking your grandma through the process--we need it broken down into steps, if you could please? Thandal
In IE9 there is a strange icon to the right of the url (address) line that is supposed to look like a page torn in half. It's between the "Search" (magnifying glass) and "Reload" (clockwise arrow) icons. This is the "Compatibility Mode" tool, which was put into IE to make it possible to load pages that were working fine under IE7 (and earlier) but didn't properly implement the HTML standard that Microsoft (finally) decided to follow. In its default state, the icon is just a greyish outline of a blank page. But click it, it turns blue to indicate that Compatibility Mode is active. What that really means is that the browser is now behaving as if it were IE7. As Dark0ne has stated many, many times now, IE7 is no longer supported here on the Nexus. So the Files Section behaves all wonky with IE7 or IE8/9 with Compatibility Mode enabled. Unfortunately, the IP Boards software that drives the forums NEEDS Compatibility Mode, or many of the menu features don't work correctly. Fortunately, IE9 lets one select the appropriate mode on a site-by-site basis. So I have "www.thnexusforums.com" set to use Compatibility Mode, and native IE9 for the Files Areas. Here's a screenshot of the DANexus under IE9 with the icon in its default native state. (This was taken to help another player with a different problem, so ignore the red boxes around other stuff, and look at the top right where the browser controls are): http://www.dragonagenexus.com/imageshare/images/1678793-1314761719.png And this one is of the Forums, with Compatibility Mode enabled, so the icon is blue: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/imageshare/images/1678793-1317422220.png Hope that helps!
Deleted472477User
IHope that helps! Okay, she tried all of this. She still gets a internet explorer could not connect to www.thenexusforums.com. it does the same thing on Firefox and Google chrome as well. The connection has timed out The server at www.thenexusforums.com is taking too long to respond. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.--that is the firefox error. I am at a loss. Doing all of this doesn't help, but apparently there's nothing about Nexus to cause these errors from the suggestions we're getting. I did try contacting Dark0ne, who can't be bothered to answer. She's getting very frustrated, and will likely end up putting all her mods up on Planet Elder scrolls instead if she can't find a way to fix this. No other websites give her any of these issues, btw. If it isn't Nexus, and it isn't browser/internet/connection issues, then what the heck is it? None of these problems ever occurred before with the old version, and just because no one else is having issues doesn't mean there's not a problem. Thank you everyone who did try to help. We do appreciate it.
buddah
Have her check with her ISP, heard that some are blocking certain types of sites. Worth having a look into. There is nothing wrong with the sites, so we need to explore other options.
