Complex Problem

OK here I have a long list of mods and some of them seem to be causing problems. I have isolated the mods that are causing or simply victim to a problem, cleaned them searched the .ini, and tested any changes I made and it fix sum of my issues but others ether remained or came back several days later.

...(looks up at long list) I'm amazed my game runs so smoothly.

 

Anyways I need some help Ive already givin 2 weeks of troubleshooting and everything I do just seems to make things worse so if anyone is up to it I have a list of problems that need to be solved.

 

And the issues are:

 

All the custom body packs: For the longest time I had no problem with custom characters, eventually I came across a corrupt file and had to delete all my progress. afterwords I kept running into a problem with the character being unable to block. they still do the animation however enemy attacks just seem to go right though.

 

Wrye Bash and UOP: OK this one makes no sense whatsoever. for some odd reason Wrye Bash hates UOP, every time it trys to load it anywhere in its system other then the main page it crashes.

 

Okari Temple and Ancient Towers OBL Gates: I have search both of these places completely and found many bugs in okari temple but the one that caught my eye was the oblivion gates. both these areas have oblivion gates and each time I try to use them it says they lead nowhere. Ive looked online (youtube) and found that they can be use so what am I doing wrong?

 

finally(not really but this will do for now) Ive been having a sound problem. each time I draw my blade, sheath it, go into sneak, jump, or do any other of these assortments of tasks it lets of a sound as if I'm casting a spell. Ive narrowed it down to one mod: (thankfully)Companion Share and Recruit. when testing that was the mod that was causing the problem and once I cleaned it it temperaraly went away going back to what I was saying about problems reappearing several days later.

 

So if anyone's up to it these are the problems I am most concerned with I have encountered more but there not worth mentioning so if you can please help

These are not your problems. They are not mods and don't contain edits to Oblivion.esm.

This is not your problem because you deactivated it and just use an .ini edit now.

This is not your problem because the mod is deactivated and the things you describe don't sound like mesh and texture problems.

These mods are buggy and broken or else conflict with each other and make each other buggy and broken. Try deactivating them both, or only using one. All the Oblivion gates in your savegames are now ruined and there is nothing much to be done about it. You need to find the Oblivion gate you entered but did not close. One that you exited in an unusual fashion such as a teleport spell or a door added by a mod. Close that gate by grabbing the sigil stone and your problem will be solved. You may wish to use the console command to close all the unusable Oblivion gates you find.

 

 

I think you need to go Nihilistic because your two weeks of troubleshooting have done little good:

 

(1) Deactivate half of your mods.

(2) Play-test. If everything is good, activate half of your deactivated mods and test again. If you have bugs, deactivate half of your remaining mods. If all of your mods are active and you have no bugs, then exit troubleshooting.

(3) If you isolate a buggy mod, KILL IT! Delete it from your load order and delete all copies of it that you possess.

(4) Repeat step 2.

Maybe it's not so complex, and can be broken down to a few bad mods you have installed, but not (completely) removed. It's easy to say now, but never install mods without looking closely into it's comment section. ;)

 

The blocking problem looks like a collision issue. What's the shield or weapon you use for blocking. If you can, find the mesh, open it with NifSkope, and look for a collision object in there. There has to be one.

 

Sound problem: look into the sounds\fx folder (and sub-folders) and check if there is a sound file left over. If not, then one of your mods ich changing sound with an esp file. You could use TES4Edit. Click all suspicious esps, and check if one of them has made sound changes (it's very easy to do). Maybe this is your bad mod. Much easier than doing the good old one half, other half method. :)

ok I tried to find a body mesh for the custom body's but all I could find were head, hair and eye meshes. am I suppose to use those to fix my issue or is the mod missing a key piece

No, I was talking about the mesh of shield or weapon which refuses to act las a blocking device. Although the key questions is: does this ("enemy attacks just seem to go right though") happen with diffferent shields and weapons, or just some specific?

Im using hand to hand and the enemy hits the character mesh collision but it dosnt detect it as blocking.

So what do you expect? Block a blunt smash with your mere arms? ;)

 

But seriously. I'm not a 3rd person player, but I believe thats the way the game works. I just tried a fight in 3rd person with a 12.5 AR cuirass, and saw the opponent's axe coming out right behind my spine. Only when you block with weapon or shield you see a reasonable reaction of your character recoiling, which brings him a bit out of distance. But the opponent's attack animation will still continue going right through your character.

 

Just my experience. Maybe someone with more fighting experience can comment on that.

Well, the fix is Skyrim. :biggrin:

 

Oblivion simply does not have the means to act differently. There are no animations which allow the character to move differently once the target is hit. S/he can continue the swing, or abort the whole animation and immediately switch to idle position. But that would really look abrupt.

 

Theoretically the engine has the means to overlay a 2nd or 3rd animation under certain conditions (like idle, stagger, torch). So it's thinkable that there is an overlay animation which sort of freezes or bounces back the right arm, while the rest of the animation continues. But not in Oblivion.
