FuwaFuwaMio
What's good people? I can't believe that I remember my password but it's a good thing that I did because otherwise I would've had to make a new account. Anyways, so I have this weird and extremely frustrating and annoying problem with my game. Basically, I had just reinstalled my copy of New Vegas and installed it with some mods (I'll post the list at the bottom with my specs) that are pretty much all visual related like textures or weather. I started a new game and everything was fine. I was getting really smooth framerates (in the 30 -60 range) and life was good. However I fired the game up a while ago and now all of the sudden I have game-crippling lag. What was once something that I got 30 - 60 fps from I'm now lucky if I can manage to squeeze 20 frames out, but more in the 5 - 15 fps range. WTF is going on with my game? I haven't touched anything, I haven't added anything else. I literally just started the game up and it worked fine then I had to quit to go grocery shopping and then I fired it up again when I got back home and it was lagging really hard (in the same areas where I previously got smooth framerates, mind you). I tried to remove some of the things like shaders and some textures, but no luck. I installed the NV Stutter Remover as well as the Purge Cell Buffers esp AND tweaked around with the NV Configurator along with the 4GB enabler. Now I'm at a loss. I have no idea what happened as I did nothing to the game or its files. One moment it was working, the next it wasn't. Please try to remember that it was working perfectly at one point and that it literally started to lag out of nowhere. I just wanted to throw that in there in case someone tries to say that 'specs aren't high enough'. All of the drivers for everything are the latest. The game itself is also completely up to date as well. My computer is also up to date and I perform maintenance on it regularly (cleaning once a week and defragging once a month). I always make sure to exit everything and use Game Booster to exit any unnecessary processes as well before playing games. I also tried verifying game cache integrity and it passes with flying colors. I do have V-Sync on but I tried disabling it and that didn't help at all, in fact the opposite happened (ironically). Arielfall
I have a sort of problem like that around NPCs I get really low GPU usage even without a frame rate cap or Vsync and about 30 fps no settings I change do anything to improve it. Do you have anything to monitor CPU and GPU usage? Be interesting to see if you're getting the same low usage issue as me or your computer is fighting something. FuwaFuwaMio
Interesting. I have MSI Afterburner for GPU monitoring and I used task manager for CPU usage. I'm barely getting any usage out of anything. For me it's a whole-game thing and not just around NPCs. That's weird. I don't suppose you figured out how to fix it, did you? God I swear, sometimes I feel like software has a mind and will of it's own. Gamebryo engine in particular loves to give me a hard time. I always wondered why I could run games like Witcher 2 and Bad Company 2 and even Crysis completely maxed out including AA and AF at 1920x1200 and get smooth framerates throughout the entire game but I can barely pull comfortable framerates in Oblivion, FO3 and FONV (though FONV is, by far, the worst performing game out of the three for me). Fallout: NV and Oblivion are really bad for me. I get about 30% in oblivion and maybe 30 FPS with a HD 6850. I should be able to kill it on ultra... FuwaFuwaMio
I would roll back the drivers if I had changed them, but like I said, I changed nothing. All of that happened today (or yesterday, technically) in the timeframe of a couple hours. I hope I'm not SOL & JWF. I'm looking forward to Skyrim, but I've already played the living crap out of Oblivion and FO3 and I haven't had a chance to play FONV and Skyrim is still a good 6 weeks away. At this rate, I won't be able to play FONV, which is a real shame. I just reinstalled a clean copy of FONV and ran it without any mods or texture packs and the same thing happened. I fired it up a couple times and it was okay then the lagfest started up again after the 3rd or 4th time onward so it's not the mods causing my problems, it's the game itself. I shall now sulk in my sorrows until a new ray of hope comes my way (or Skyrim comes out). ='( Edited September 30, 2011 by FuwaFuwaMio
