Need Ideas for an Air-craft Graveyard

Hey guys,

I'm working on an air-craft graveyard for one of the worldspaces in Beyond Boulder Dome, and I'm looking for some ideas of what to include.

I did have one idea for having a giant crater, where you can see the side of an underground bunker, like lines of sediment, if you know what I mean.

I'm looking for interesting, ruined scenery ideas, or links to concepts or pictures and stuff like that.

A vertibird crash site not far from the take off site. Add a couple of notes why it crashed (carrying important ppl, chinese sabotage... blah blah blah).

A small encampment not far off from the site (like the Sniper's Nest in FNV) with the skeleton of a guy with a unique vertibird blade sword next to it (like that nightkin companion, i forgot her name). Alternatively, add a note there as well and let the players follow a trail of notes to some random obscure site with the skeleton of the guy and the sword. But if you are pressed for time just leave the sword in the encampment. Also add a note how the guy came across the blade. Or not. But adding those tiny details make a huge difference in the player experience. It goes to show how dedicated you are to the mod :D

ALTERNATE: Place infested by FEV mutants and everyone is carrying a Vertibird sword. Though this makes sense, it sort of devalues the uniqueness of the vertibird sword model.

Enemies can be anything. But it should make sense. If it is close to the water, Mirelurks would be a good idea. Otherwise, raiders or something to that end will also work.

That's pretty much about the environment. Except adding aircraft carcasses, but I believe you already took care of that. Also give it importance. An aircraft graveyard is unlikely to have a hi tech bunker attached. Make it a covert research lab or some other s***.

Don't forget to connect it with some quests (like the Boomer quest where you need to hunt for stuff at HELIOS). A desolate graveyard would be perfect for scavenging quests.

Possibly you could put in a quest to scavenge some hard to find aircraft parts - instruments, a hydraulic pump, hydraulic cylinder, engine part, flap actuator etc and sell or trade them to the Boomers.

Maybe some of these parts have already been scavenged by someone else and you will have to find who, (some kind of clue left behind) then track them down and find a way to steal, trade or otherwise get the parts.

Quest to rescue a group of boomers that have gone to the graveyard to scavenge. Then help them to find the part they are looking for.

Use parts found in the graveyard to make some unique weapon. One possible example - A power fist made using a small hydraulic actuator and some other parts? Example - You will need to find: a specific actuator, a return valve to reset, a trigger mechanism, hydraulic fluid, a pressure container, and a pump to pressurize it. Once pressurized it is good for a limited number of uses before needing to be re pressurized.

Assemble several aircraft hulls to make a player home.

In my head it was a big junkyard, full of dust storms so there is low visibility.

When I made the robot creatures I gave him the hood and poncho stuff with your junkyard in mind.

I was thinking there is robot who lives in there and disguises himself in that stuff, either to keep a low profile from visitors, so they won't know there's a self aware robot running around in there, or to not scare them away, or maybe to keep the dust out of his sensitive areas. When you posted a thread a while ago asking about followers, this was the guy I was thinking of.

There should definitely be tunnels made out of fuselage, where dust and dirt and other junk has piled on top, burying it. If you have scavengers that live there, they are probably total inbreds who know their way around the maze of tunnels.

Ghoulified Pilots of both American and Chinese origin.

Holotapes and notebooks with their diaries in their inventories, too. Would be slightly disturbing having them killed, if they became feral. And/or entrapped under the rubble.

The pilots could try to land their machines on that graveyard, after they came home. Would be quite symbolic.

Also, a nuclear-powered plane cruising around the place, irradiating with its exhaust the hood, still with dead pilot in the cabin, on autopilot and waiting for a permission to land.

Thanks for your ideas guys. So far I've decided to have American and Chinese tribal ghouls, with custom skin textures, as airmen and pilots who are engaged in a 200 year old stalemate, refusing to believe the war is over.
