prince_yuki
Hi peeps. I've come across a problem that has got me stumped comletely =/. I've had Oblivion before and many mods from this site, which is mint btw =]. I reinstalled Oblivion because I bought a new hard drive and gpu and its mint!!! The graphics are sweet without the slightest of drop in fps... right, for some reason when I did it all up my system drive is called (F:). Apparently, having the system drive anything other than (C:) has caused problems for other people here wanting mods to work... I can get a very few to work but I think it's only because the scripting allows different paths or something like that? I dont know but any help is apreciated! =] I've tried making a partition on my drive and calling it (C:) but it wont let me do it on an active drive... Which is the one I'm usuing lol.. HEEEEELP!! please =]
bben46
On my previous system I had Oblivion installed on the D drive to keep games separate from other programs. Every time I installed a new mod or update I had to tell it where to install. It seems that EVERY programmer automatically expects his baby to be the only program on your computer and it absolutely must install on the C drive because that is where he puts it on his. When I upgraded, I decided that the new HD was so big I could afford to put Oblivion on my C drive. It has cut problems with missing meshes and other install hassles by quite a bit. If you can do it without screwing up some other programs, try renaming your drive to C. This won't work if there is already a C drive installed. Hope this helps. Abramul
If renaming doesn't work, try the following: Create a new folder named C_DRIVE. May as well put it in the F drive's root directory (F:). *Open the Run... dialogue (WIN+R), and enter cmdOnce the command prompt opens, enter subst c: f:\C_DRIVEUninstall Oblivion, and reinstall it to C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion *Name doesn't actually matter, I picked this one because it makes it obvious what the folder is for. It's possible that this method may add a bit of lag. Someone who's more familiar with how filesystems work might know.
TheTerminator2004
What drives do you have on your computer? The way Windows decides on names is: A floppy drive goes on a:. If you have a second one, that goes on b:, otherwise it gets skipped. Next come hard drives, starting at C:, then going up until they all have names. Next come optical drive, ie CD/DVD drives (usually D:, because most people only have one HD), then come other drives, such as usb sticks, or flash cards, until they're all named. Network drives are slightly different- the first one starts at Z:, and they go downward until they're all named (or Windows runs out of letters, which can happen). For example, my computer which has one floppy drive, one Windows HD partition, a DVD drive, a CD-RW drive, two usb ports which I use for memory sticks etc, and four flash card slots, looks like this: A: floppy driveC: Hard DiskD: DVD driveE: CD-RWF: flash cardG: flash cardH: flash cardI: flash cardJ: usb stick (this one only appears when one's plugged in)K: usb stick (this one only appears when one's plugged in) So, you must have a Hard drive already labeled as C:- you could either install Oblivion there, or probably swap the two round (I'm not quite sure how to do this in Windows- if it was Linux, it'd be easy... then again, if it was Linux, you wouldn't even be having this problem). Either that, or there's something wrong with Windows.
prince_yuki
Right.... I have one hard drive.. and its called F. When I installed xp from vista.. because I REALLY do like vista but I'm more comfortable with xp. It said "were would you like to install xp?" I had two options..F: (298GB)C: (10.5MB) NOT GBFor some reason I had a partiton called C: instead of F: which was 10mb in size... I was like "WTF?" but carried on anyway...And renaming drives which the os is installed wont happen cos it has to deal with all the file paths and stuff.. so It doesnt allow it =/ pap Thank you so far for anyone whos tried to help =] hope we can get it sorted =/
TheTerminator2004
You must have done something wrong when you were partitioning the drive before installing Vista and XP... C: is the first partition of your hard drive, then the next partition is called D:, etc. It looks to me as though you left a bit of space at the beginning by accident- the only way you can fix this is to reinstall Windows (both of them), and making sure that the first OS partition starts at 0. You need to be very careful when partitioning a hard drive, especially when installing multiple operating systems, otherwise you can run into all sorts of problems.
