Armor Switches Textures!

My new armor pieces like to switch textures when I'm walking, or just whenever they want.

I followed Quetzlsacatanango's very helpful tutorial on how to edit armor and re-import it back into the game. Earlier tonight I had a working plaid skirt and I was SO happy with it. I was feeling pretty good about myself...I was finally conquering Blender...soon I'd make a mod full of clothes and upload it on the Nexus!

But then...it changed textures. I didn't even edit it. It changed back and forth, here to there, all over the place. It even became transparent once. Sometimes it vanishes entirely.

What happened? I went back into NifSkope and everything specified in the tutorial was done. My texture was assigned and it had a normal map attached to it. Still, nothing. What causes this? How can I fix this and get my clothing mod back on track? How can I avoid it in the future?

You're right, of course.

But like I said, the texture is assigned and everything. It's showing up just fine in NifSkope...but when I pull the item up in GECK it shows up with the same texture as the ground around it. I don't understand why the texture would show up just fine in Blender and NifSkope...and why suddenly GECK - and the game - won't recognize it.

It makes no sense at all...

Bump: is the problem in the fallout.ini file?

When messing around with importing a F3 armor to FNV, I discovered that this phenomenon seems to happen most often in interior cells with occasional changes in lighting as I move or turn the camera. That would make it less a texture problem and more a...something else problem...wouldn't it?

I truly hope this has happened to someone else and they can help give me some insight on it...

This happens to me too. Double check your .nif - the texture paths need to be "textures\etc\etc (the texture will display fine in nifskope and my 3d app just fine without "textures" being present in the path but in geck/game it does what you describe. Hope that helps!

It did, actually! Well, sort of. ^.^;; On the pre-existing clothes I'm porting from F3...I don't want to get my hopes up too early, but....I did what you suggested and double- and triple-checked the paths...I think I may have found a kink, which I worked out. As for my original creation, well...it's still a huge mystery why it isn't showing up. All my texture paths are just fine...I may have to start from scratch on that one. Blah.

But yes! Thank you for your help....:)

Oh no problem :) - hate to see work go to waste. I've converted and ported tons of armors and clothes now, so I can take a look at the .nif if you want to upload it somewhere and PM a link or something?

You'd be willing to do that for me? That would be so much help...it would be one less thing stopping me from finally uploading some content! Thank you so much! I'll pm you here in a bit with my email so I can send it to you...it's not that big, don't worry. :)

could it conceivably be the most obvious problem? Archive Invalidation not being Invalidated?

there's a button in FOMM which can set that up for you if you haven't done it. but if it wasn't done, then you'd get symptoms like you describe....
