So I wasted hours at modding and the game doesn't even work

It's just on Local Map wherever I go. What do you mean by 100% and 75% values?

I have met yet another problem with Deadly Reflex, or at least I think it's by DR : This isn't exactly a problem I suppose but lack of skill or my understanding of the mod .. So what I did was exit Imperial City and head to the first place on the main quest near Chorrol. And what happened was that I died to the very first wild life animal that I came across. my sword did almost no damage at all, and I could only take two hits and then I died.. Though I had no shield, I doubt that it would have made much of a difference.

Also not related to any of the above but is there a mod to modify how invisibility skills work? I find it retarded that if you're invisible but then open a door to exit/enter a building or interior within a building will make the invisibility to disappear. A mod to '' fix '' this would be appreciated.

Its possible that you came across a creature of a higher level, and that's probably why it could do so much damage but you could do little damage in return. Are you using the FCOM safer roads plugin? You must raise your level abit before venturing outside, until then its wiser to melee a bit and then run like hell if the enemy has an advantage.

You are of course using the DLC - Horse armor plugin? If you are you get a free horse in the beginning of the game at Chestnut handy stables. Travel using it, so you can outrun the creatures.

As for mods and textures packs,

Alternative to QTP - Really Textured Normal Maps for vanilla (you can use the folders you need, like clothing for example since Qarls doesn't cover it, confirm with readme)

look over the mod detectives forum topic for some special mods (that have been identified) You'll find some really interesting stuff there.

Fearsome Magicka gives a message in game if its initialized without errors. Check for that. You have to buy the spells from some guy in shivering Isles (in Crucible)

I use the regular version of Darnified UI, so I'm not sure what's wrong with the ingame map.

Not certain about the invisibility fix. Never used chamaleon (if that's what you mean by invisibility). Type chameleon in the nexus search

Also post your latest load order, so I'll know what you've installed.

Also here's a wonderful mod catalog. Invaluable.

It works offline and autoupdates too.

P.s Don't forget to thank all those wonderful mod authors!

Sure is hard to level up if high level creatures wonder around even at the starting place .. o,o. how am I supposed to level up if anything i meet kills me so quickly? As I was heading to Chorrol, there was also this fort that Oblivion XP identified as '' easy ''. Despite that, as soon as I was spotted by a raider there, I got owned like hell.

As for DR, to my understanding it offers a lot different attack types but I'm not really sure how to execute them? For example, it talks about shield bashing, or power attacks. However, it does not speak how to execute these. The only power attack I'm aware of is holding down attack key for longer but surely there are others, probably even in vanilla? So if there are, how do I learn those.

As for invisibility, it's exactly what I meant. There's Chameleon spell but that does not make you completely invisible. There's also spells/scrolls that make you completely invisible, but while invisible, if you take any action such as attack/open door or well, anything besides walking around, the invisibility is lost. I find this annoying and would like a '' fix '' for this.

To level up, well you would have to train at the arena.

Check out this video about deadly reflex,

You need to be at a higher level (around 25) to use the moves. That will take a long time, read this (table)

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Increasing_Skills

For criticals there's an .ini config that you need to tweak.

set skycaptainssb.criticalchance to 30 ;critical chance multiplier in all critical calculations

change it to like 100

same with

set scc.magiccriticalmult to 1 ;additional mult for magic criticals

&

set scc.arrowcriticalmult to 1 ;additional mult for marksman criticals

Sell items like meat, pelts, loot that you may find scattered around and use that to buy potions. There are chances that you'll come across dead adventurers, and get a lot of loot this way. Developing your alchemy skill also has its advantages (you can make potions rather then buy them)

Lure the higher level enemies towards the guards/soldiers on horseback. They'll kill them for you and you can loot their bodies without a fuss.

You ought to be atleast level 5 before venturing into the forest

and around level 10 before going into Oblivion. (anything below that is mostly suicide, though there are occasions where you might get pretty far)

I'll look into the invisibility fix.

  • 2 weeks later...

Any news on the invisibility fix/workaround? I like to sneak around a lot, steal items and sell the loot, but I really don't feel like wasting my once-per-day spell (power of those born under Shadow) when the skill is gone when you open a door for example.

Haven't played at all yet due this (and due dying all the damn time..). Thanks for all of your help though.. at least now I am at a point where the game works.

That spell really is weak due to the limitations placed on it. Generally you're better off going with The Thief Birthsign for a "Rogue" style character as Luck plays a proportionally larger role in lock picking and sneaking than most other attributes/skills. You can always level up your Illusion and learn recastable invisibility spells in time to have them for the parts of the game where they're actually useful, Luck on the other hand is challenging to level up without a decent level mod and even with a level mod +10 luck at the start of the game is extremely helpful. That's not even considering the Agility and Speed bonuses of the Birthsign.

To alter how Invisibility spells work, I believe you'd have to mess around with a script that's built into the game. I may do some digging in Oblivion.esm to see if I can find the script you'd want to alter, but someone else would have to actually change it as I'm not much of a scripter myself.

Edit: Oh, and your boots! Early on in the game it's extremely helpful to wear shoes or go barefoot while sneaking. Until you reach a certain level of sneak (I believe Journeyman:50) the weight of your boots affects how loud your footsteps are while sneaking. The heavier your boots the less your chance of staying unnoticed becomes, shoes or going barefoot are the lowest noise level possible.

Also, light! If you're an archer, try to find dark crevices to shoot from while in caves and dungeons and don't move until the monster/enemy goes back from it's "alert" behavior to it's normal standing/patrolling behavior. These can make a big difference in your chance of being seen.

Try these mods, might help probably?

100% chameleon (Its different from invisibility and permanent.)

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12114

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5232

Changes to the chameleon shader

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2411

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23552 (same as above I think)

Sneaking

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37385

You could use a companion mod (like CM partners) to build a small militia that accompanies you on your travels. This way you'll have the upper hand when attacked by enemies.

There's a mounted combat mod that allows you to trample enemies (very useful if you're in a hurry to get someplace)

Another way I use is running off and climbing the nearest rock. Then I camp there and pump magic and arrows into them, however if they are at a higher level it does take quite a while to kill them.

You could also use a mod that adds high leveled travelers to the roads (crowded roads, immersive travelers, heroes of cyrodil) and accompany them into battle.

Though the side effect of this is that most FCOM creatures will be killed off even before you have a chance to meet them, not to mention substantial lag because of multiple AI packages.
