devinpatterson
Nice thinking with this trog-like beasts...makes me think "Morlocks". Definitely cool. The escaped kids are very Little Lamplight but with a "Beyond Thunderdome" kinda effect as well...I'm picturing tribal children like those kids. I was thinking the kids were recently encamped, but if we made them there for a few years, then I don't see why they couldn't follow the "Beyond Thunderdome" kids/tribe with their own vocabulary and culture. greenknightfury
Just realized what was tugging at my brain as I read this...and this could help with some flavor ideas characters Wandering Ones very awesome comic that's post apoc and has a tribe based from native americans but with a mix of other peoples as well caught between two governments trying to expand into the lands around them and beyond. Sounds spot on, two governments (ncr, legion), native american etc. Only had a chance to read the first few pages, but it looks promising.

Doesn't even take them being there too long...group of kids captured from different tribes of that area brought far from home and trying to survive they'd end up with a hodgepodge of the tribal langauges and some really weird mythology built around the whole experience and so hopeful thinking (perhaps reinforced by the leaders) about someone that will come and bring them to a place of safety. devinpatterson
Yeah that's true, kids have short memories. I was thinking it might be cool if they were living in a buried shopping mall. That way they would have food, water, clothes, toys etc. I wonder if non-human tribes would be interesting. Maybe a group of super mutants, or intelligent deathclaws etc. Any non-human would be better off opposing the legion. I'm also thinking that recruiting some human tribes may preclude recruitment of others (due to long running feuds or whatever). I don't want to get into making a full RTS sim here, but say you recruit the burning lands tribe. You gain their mastery of fire but loose any chance of bringing in their neighbor tribes (because they'r psychotics). Depending on your choices you can sort of shape your war party's military abilities. Edited November 29, 2011 by devinpatterson
greenknightfury
Love the non-human intelligence tribes idea. Always thought a tribe like that led by a Ghoul would be cool; revered by them as a survivor and unearthly and the ghoul deciding that leading them would let them fix humanities mistakes. Far more an intelligent Deathclaws or Mire/Lakelurks idea than Supermutant though. Edited December 1, 2011 by greenknightfury

Good deal, the non human tribes is kind of my favorite too (although I think the burning lands tribe will be interesting to work on too). I'm afraid I'm limited to species that have a human or super mutant skeleton. Thanks to Quetzlsacatanango, deathclaws are no problem. Ghouls are already setup by default. But I don't have a skeleton for mire/lakelurks. Q has a pic of a direlurk (very similar to a mirelurk king) on his critters resource, and I think that's as close to a mirelurk that we could use; http://static.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/images/41117-1-1320481432.jpg

devinpatterson
I'm working on an advanced firefighter suit/armor. I figure this could be found/used by the player after he/she is thrown into the firepit by the burning tribe. But also it could be worn by the burning tribes leaders or higher ups, except there's would be flaming from the sludge and oil they rub on it and ignite. It's essentially a suit developed to work with oil well fires. I put 5% fire reistance on the helmet as well as a rebreather effect. I'll probably put 80% fire resitance on the suit. The armor is lower than riot gear and heavier (due to the air canisters), but it works great against heat. I may make it possible for the player to gather/steal the sludge/oil so he or she can have several applications that light up his/her suit as well. Here is hte helmet (mashup of ranger vetern helmet and searchlight fire helmet). There's two versions there. One flat and one at an angle...not sure which looks best.http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/8647/advancedfirehelmet.jpg I think I'm also going to make a dalmation cyber dog if the ears aren't too much of a pain to change from the vanilla model. And of course a saturnium fire axe. Now that I look at it, I think I also need to make a ranger vet helmet with a cowboy hat on it....
