Skyrim Houses

With skyrim now only 1 month away I’ve started to draft some ideas for houses

And I would like to hear your opinion on them also and your ideas too, I’m not the Best Modder by far however I have made a few mods in the past which I thought were fun and they had okay feedback. So if you want to suggest ideas don’t suggest something too far-fetched :)

Anyway back to the ideas so far my current ideas of mods to make are

First house

Riverview house

My first idea for a house would be a rather small basic house in the small town of Riverview it would hopefully fit in with the rest of the town behind the tavern. However if that wasn’t possible i would possible place a house next to the river either on the land next to the river. The house would be rather small and would consist of the basics, a bed room a living room, the bog standard house no overpowering things just a little start off.

How would it be obtained?

- Possible via killing a bandit who killed the previous owner?

- finding the key in the river? (Unsure if this would work as bodies float down rivers and the key might ... which could be fun)

- Possible bag/box of the ex-owner who was killed the box has sank to the bottom of the river and the corpse has floated away.

Second house

Cave Abode.

My second idea is for a cave house nothing grand just a cave which is suited most likely for bandits/thief’s/murders any kind of person who wants to be out in the wilderness on their own for whatever reason that may be. it would most likely be based in one of the snowy mountains as I think it would be a nice to have a nice cave with a campfire inside then to walk out and get battered by the strong winds and snow. The house would consist of the basics, a bed room. A living area, the basics and I would also likely create 2 different versions one with and extra fighting/training part of the cave to keep fit (combat dummies and whatever else is on offer) and another option with a dark evil feel to it necromancy/dark brotherhood that kind of feel.

How would it be obtained?

-frozen corpse on the mountain

-corpse of a hero that was mauled to death?

My third idea isn’t much of an idea

for my third "idea" I would like to convert/upgrade certain places in the game as usually when I’m exploring games I see places where I think there should be houses/rooms for the player which are not there or if there is a room/place it usually is crappy looking and could do with a upgrade an example of this could be my mod of the novac motel room for fallout new Vegas. Basically taking places and upgrading them so they are more suitable for the player’s wants and needs.

UPDATE/S

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I Will likely be also creating a farm also now with a nice feel to it with a nice exterior with crops that enable you to live of your land if you would this would enable roleplayers to roleplay as farmer or just as a citizen,

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

if enough people request the same thing i will likely make the mod in question,

Well that’s my current ideas anyhow, thanks for reading this thread and I hope you guys respond with some feedback / ideas

Thanks

I love the Riverview house idea. I love being out in the wilderness so I would rather have it by the river. It would be a cool and fun adventure to have the key floating down the river, but then since things actually DO float in Skyrim it might get lost and who knows where the heck it would end up? It could probably end up on the opposite side of Skyrim! haha I guess you could always see about having the key at the bottom of the river (without any floating motion). But you could always say that a bandit killed the previous owner and before the owner died he threw the key into the river, and you just happened to come across the house right after the bandit had killed the guy.

The cave abode would also be great. Being up in the cold snowy mountains by yourself and no one knows of your secret hideout. Yea I would definitely be there, my sneaky assassin/theif. I personally would rather have the DB feel than a training room, I mean come one...the DB only trains themselves with fresh subjects muwahaha. As for obtaining it, its owner could have previously been a member of the Dark Brotherhood and someone may have wanted revenge and killed the murderer. Or something like that. But great ideas! I would definitely like to see this happen.

I'm so f***ing glad people take their time to mod so much in Oblivion and all the other Bethesda games.

Box of EX owner idea was f'ing cool. (Go with that one IMO)

I can't wait for Skyrim. What I can't wait for even more is all the amazing mods you guys will be making.

Props to the whole community ;)

thanks for the current feedback guys,

and when it comes to the story/background of the houses they will be as lore friendly and suitable as i wouldnt want to make something silly. Chances are that ill right out a paragraph or two explaining the house/houses so it feels like there was something to the house not just straight dropped into the game with no history.

any way thanks again for the feedback any ideas/feedback is always wanted so feel free to reply with them ;)

These sound like fantastic ideas, and I'd love to see then come to life - Especially the cave with a darker feel to it.

My only concern is that obtaining the houses might be a bit too easy. I don't know what the houses and their prices etc. are like in Skyrim, but I think that making the player have to solve a puzzle, or kill a group of bandits, or do climb to an awkward location would make obtaining the house more rewarding.

e.g. you could put the key in a bag that is behind a puzzle door in an existing cave. Just place it out of sight so that's it's easy to miss, but not difficult to find. This would mean the player has to do at least two of the three above go get the house. A note on the doorstep, or on a frozen adventurer corpse, could name the dungeon.

i get what you mean Moonlight, as it always has annoyed me through our bethesdas games when people mod houses and mansion and basically leave the key on the door step its silly and illogical. but yeah i will like the players do something to earn the house some may be more easily obtained that others if they are starter houses however it all depends on the games feel though really.i like your idea about caves/dungeons perhalps i could write a note about a owner leaving to find some treasure in one of the caves and at the end you find the corpse at the boss, interesting,

  • 3 weeks later...

I have an idea for a home, that I will attempt to create myself.

Basically the idea is something like this:

Your character's grandfather left your father & his mother when your father was still young, without an explanation, and your father always resented him for this and never really spoke of him.

If you visit some tavern an old man will walk up to you and beg for a drink, if you buy one for him he'll thank you and mention that you resemble an old friend of his and ask you if you are related to [name here]. If you pursue the subject the man will eventually mention that the last time he saw him he had gone far off on one of his crazy expeditions and give you some rough directions.

If you travel to the location mentioned you'll find a rather small and worn shack surrounded by a few runestones. Once inside, among the sparse decoration you'll find an old book. The book starts with a letter of apology from your grandfather directed to his son, he then goes on to the tell the story of why he left his wife and kid, the locations of some truly ancient ruins containing something that if let loose could cause untold destruction and that the secret society he belonged to had sworn to never let it fall into the wrong hands. He writes that he's dying of old age and sickness as he's writing his last words, but that he think he has finally located what he was looking for and now hopes that you will be able to continue his legacy.

He then mentions that in order to unearth the entrance you will need a workforce and gives you a couple of names of NPCs to go to for aid. He also warn you for a man who left their society to pursue the ruins for his own goals.

That's how I intend to start off a quest chain involving creating a small village and expanding your house, including a small dungeon and an underground temple.

At first I just wanted to make a house but I have an unfinished project for the UDK involving a temple that I figured I might as well put the resources to good use.

My goal is to create an involving storyline with a little drama, betrayal and friendship and some half-assed cliché plot :)

I always really like mods that generally stick to the lore and enhance it. One of the story bits I was able to glean from the sounds of skyrim video we got the other day was that worship of Talos has been banned by the Empire. Would be cool to make a player home out of an abandoned chapel previously dedicated to Talos worship. Could easily be worked into a quest about vampires terrorizing the locals and their headquarters located in the catacombs beneath an old cathedral outside of town. You go in, eradicate the vamps, and use it for your own purposes. Would be a cool aesthetic, and there could be plenty of room for activities!

What do you guys think?
