GECK files - how to edit them without having to create new ones?

I started using the GECK a few days ago, time and again I see that a file has to be edited again.

 

So, how do I change a file I created without having to save it as a new file? My load order says it all:

BTW, I only change weapons (magazine capacity, spread, range and damage) and armor (damage resistance).

When choosing the esp you want to load/change in Geck, mark it as "active" also.

 

Yes, I do that, but if I change anything and want to save it, the GECK just won't let me save it under the same name. It says, that it is an active file or a master file and to chose another name.

I just enjoy to turn a good looking, but not so useful gun into a real piece of weaponry, to reduce its spread, increase the clip capacity and/or damage and to change its scope so, as to be useful at night.

Being a gun-nut, this is what I do with GECK. I have no time, however, to make a real mod myself (an adventure...).
