Teach me how to set up my load order?

Hi!

I was just wondering if anyone out there knew a "rule" for sorting load orders?

My current load order goes like this:

Oblivion.esm
Hentai Mania.esp
_Ren_BeautyPack_full.esp
personality_idles2.esp
Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp
actors_in_charge.esp
DLCShiveringIsles.esp
MaleBodyReplacerV4.esp
EFGAddPose.esp
StandingJOJO.esp
BasicInstinct.esp
bondage_sex.esp
shinyEmotions.esp
CTAddPose_v_1.esp
Eroblivion.esp
CTAddPose_ bondage_sex.esp
Slof's Sexy Anims.esp
77_Umpa_Animation.esp
Alternative Start by Robert Evrae.esp
ahtata Ork.esp
Ryk_Swimwear.esp
RISA.esp
Warcraftelf.esp
Apachii_Goddess_Store.esp
zzEstrus.esp
Imperial Hideout.esp
KitRae Exotic Dual Remake.esp
NexonsArmoryENG.esp
Demoness.esp
Kani's Elves.esp
Synx.esp
NaRae Pose - 02.esp
Bashed Patch, 0.esp
Better_Water-1830.esp
GizmodianNetherweaveRobe.esp
New Frostmourne Sword by Jojjo v1_0.esp
Silverlight Armor by Jojjo.esp

The game doesn't crash or anything when I play, which is usually a good sign I suppose, but I have seen some bugs here and there.

One example would be that an armor mod I downloaded (uninstalled now) had a skirt that would stretch the hangy-thingies down into the ground.. If that makes any sense?

So yeah, that's pretty much all I have to ask.

Hoping for quick and easy answers! :)

First of all... always read the readme document that is provided with most mods. Load order is quite simple if you install the BOSS. Install BOSS in your data directory of Oblivion and let it sort the order for you. You might have some mods that are not recognized by BOSS so set it manually but with similar mods i.e. armor mod with armor mod, etc etc. Pay attention to the comments in the BOSS log and then use TES4Edit if it says you have dirty edits in your mods. This is essential because dirty mods tend to cause all kinds of problems including bugs, mod not functioning, and crashes. Hope this helps. And about that bug you mentioned you probably need the armor mod that is suitable for your body replacer. So if you have HGEC body replacer mod you need HGEC converted armor mods also or it will not display correctly.

Hentai Mania brings his own skeleton, that causes many problems and overrides the original skeleton. that causes many problems in my game before I deleted and only use Hentaimania 2.

Have fun

Harvald

Could you explain it a little more thoroughly? Should I go get Hentaimania 2 as well?

I don't use Hentai Mania, but the skeleton is basically what controls your characters animations. Every animation controls certain "bones" and moves them in a particular sequence.

If it is a known problem with Hentai Mania that the skeleton used disrupts the game, then yes you should use Hentai Mania 2 (which, judging from Harvald's explanation, does not cause problems with the skeleton)

As for load order, the order depends on how important it is. You should also know a little about how an esp file works...

Feel free to skip this part if you don't care :)

An Esm (Elder Scrolls Master) is a database of objects, quests, cells, scripts, spells, etc.

An esp (Elder Scrolls Plugin) is simply a list of changes made to an esm. So if the esm has a cheese wheel on the left side of a table, then an esp can move it to the right side of the table by changing that 1 record.

Simple stuff, so far.

Oblivion supports up to a total of 255 esms and esps. Some of these may change some of the same records however...

So for example, we have our esp that moves the cheese well to the right of the table, but we may have another esp that moves the cheese wheel under the table. The cheese wheel cannot be in both places at once, so what happens?

The answer is simple - the last esp to load always wins.

We can apply that theory to how a load order should work. First off, we have our fundamental mods, things like the Unofficial Patch (<<<Must always be first) or OOO, which change just about everything. If we put them last then no other mod would have a chance.

A lot of people would disagree with me on this one though. I personally set it this way and have 100+ mods coherant mods running.

Next we have small changes - equipment mods, house mods...

Then is Gameplay changes - vampire overhauls, basic needs overhauls...

Then quests - small quests can go before small gameplay changes, some gameplay changes have to go after large quests. It's a matter of judgement.

Finally, very important mods go last. Some people put any quest mods they are doing last, then when they are finished they move them up. Alternative starts should probably go here, deadly reflex should go here, any bashed patch should probably be here too.

Look here for an explanation who knows a lot more about oblivion than me :)

Another hint. Quest mods, particularly large ones should be loaded late in the list. Preferably with the quest mod you are working on can be moved to the last quest mod to prevent problems with changes made by other quest mods. . Then after completing the quest mod, it can be moved back up out of the way allowing another quest mod to take precedence - Basic rule of thumb, the LAST mod rules when there is a conflict.
