Seeking input on extreme clipping reduction challenge

Just because I got bored, I decided to make a Fallout version of the old "Bankruptcy Barrel" where a person is just wearing a suspended barrel because they lost their money, home, and clothes. I thought it was funny, but didn't expect how popular of an idea it was going to be, and I have a bunch of people asking if they can download it. Trouble is, naturally, that it clips in pretty much all positions and animations except for just a few poses and maybe normal walking, or it distorts unrealistically if I weight paint it like a normal outfit. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how I might lessen the issue, whether by animation changes, collision with the barrel mesh, or anything else that I haven't thought of. I'm just looking to see how much is actually possible.

I'd also be interested in knowing if it was at all possible, during sneak mode, while wearing the barrel to tuck the whole body inside of it, so it just looks like a barrel that moves from place to place.

I would give the barrel a fake top and bottom that just looks black or something, and cut out all the body parts on the inside. It wouldn't be perfect but it would help a lot I think.

For the sneak mode thing, give it a script so that when you're sneaking it equips a different item, this item being the barrel mesh only, no body at all.

The other issue is that the arms clip through the sides in idle. Is there a way to change the arm angle for only this one outfit?

Thanks for the advice on the sneak thing, that would probably be perfect!

Well, I guess it's worth experimenting at least, but I expect that it will not look right. Thanks for the idea. I might just slim the barrel a little on the sides to reduce the issue, and leave as is. It's more a comedy piece than a legit armor anyway.
