Any interest in a massive parody mod?

First, I'm not actually planning to start this, I'm mostly wondering if there's any interest in such a mod, and if there are skilled people who would like to work on a mod.

The idea is basically this. Take the main quest and several general aspects within Oblivion, and find ways of twisting it into humor. I have a few ideas myself, and would like to think that some people might find them funny. but would certainly be open to ideas from anyone interested as long as they can actually be done in game (if you don't know, it probably can't).

Essentially, the mod would be changing several of the things which are usually off limits (quests, npcs, scripts, dialogues) in any way that is both entertaining, and doesn't depart too much from the actual game. As such, it wouldn't be possible without some interest from people capable of recording voices that aren't too different from normal (although that really doesn't matter too much since we'd be changing the NPCs dialogues anyway.) We would also need several scripters with knowledge of the game, and a healthy sense of humor. While I personally

can't commit to much actual work beyond brainstorming and some coordinating, I would be lending my various talents to the project as I can, if it ever starts up.

For right now I'm more interested in seeing in who would be interested in working on such a project and what talents they can bring to it than I am for ideas on what could be done. As with any large mod, it requires alot of time and effort to make it, while we have a fairly good framework to start with, it would still probably take several months to do, and really can't work without the vocal and dialogue talent (would prefer not to use silence... We'll be using subtitles for humorous effect, but there kinda needs to be spoken dialogue). I would like to think that such a mod would be fun to work on, fun to play, and may make playing through it again more entertaining. naturally, the humor will range from silly to edgy, I'd try to keep it away from anything offensive or too campy (unless that is tne intent).

Any work would have to be done in 1.1 (due to .lip creation and compatability reasons). The scope of the mod would be focused on only the main quest, in particular the tutorial, the siege at kvatch, joining the mythic dawn, and camerons paradise. While it might be good to do some stuff to the ending, due to all the things which are taking place, that may not work too well. The idea would be to start small, one quest at a time (or have seperate groups to work on each) and move from there to other areas of the main quest. We could work beyond the main quest afterward, but would prefer to keep efforts focused on one thing at a time. Depending on the vocal talent and how well the dialogues like being written, some aspects may be easier than others. I would really like to have someone to voice a total replacement monologue of Mankar Cameron's speeches, but realize that probably won't come to pass.

So what do you people think? Is it worth looking into and collecting people for, or is it like every other large mod, doomed to fail?

Sounds good, but there are some certain things you can do to make sure it doesn't get into repetitive joke-telling. I think the main quest should have a constant, on-going joke throughout, based on a real item turned into a novelty item. For instance, instead of the amulet of kings being the focus of the protagonist, a novelty item from which many puns can be derived. This keeps the same joke going throughout the game, and as long as you can derive puns from it you should be fine.

While yes, the thought of replacing the amulet of kings with something more silly had crossed my mind. But for the most part, I didn't want to do something easy in concept, but hard to pull off (can't call it anything else, since it's mentioned alot). In that light, once you've presented the gag, it kinda gets old. The idea is not to rewrite the story, or main elements of the story, but instead twist it and make fun of things... For instance, mini-dremora complete with higher pitched voices... They're still dremora, they're still trying to kill you, they're just small and fiesty. Don't think of it like a conversion, or even a new quest mod, think of it as a series of tweaks to the game with a common theme. The main quests allow some spots where gags and other things can be inserted without really derailing the quest too much. Remember, sometimes the best comedy is that which catches the participant off guard. The fact that the player would have already gone though the situation and would be expecting something can actually be used to make the gag more powerful, even if it's something that only lasts a few seconds. A single reoccuring joke isn't impossible, but would really depend more on what talents are available to make it work. A single joke also requires the joke to be broad enough for enough people to find funny. There is nothing worse than a joke that you don't find funny, that gets repeated multiple times. Whereas with multiple smaller jokes, if one fails to cause a response, there are others which might prove better.

Naturally, before any actual work would begin, team members would be able to post (in a seperate forum) their ideas and build off the ideas of others to spread things out a bit and keep things fun. While we're working on one part, the team could continue to bounce ideas off eachother, There just has to be a point where a concensus for a part is decided on, and work begins. One of the things which kills large mods like this is that they enter this endless series of brainstorming, and nothing ever develops because nobody can decide how anything should be done. I would like to be able to avoid that, but without killing off all creativity. Either I would take up the role of deciding, or I would elect someone else to make that decision. That way both those people who just want to be told what to do, and those who like to be active in the planning can do what they want to do.

I am totally down, you should do the quest about you trying to find out who stole your pants, through out the whole entire thing, you have to run around... with no pants...

you should also be able to throw pies in peoples faces..

Yeah, thats added in this really cool mod called "Insanity", but don't try searching for it. It's the type of mod you go out and do in public. The quest ends when the people in white coats come and put sharp things in your arms.
