Capturing Forts - Speculation Thread

I have searched this site and the internet in general on this topic and found nothing. Please excuse me if this has been covered already.

Does anybody here have any idea or wish to speculate what this will actually entail? I am very interested in this personally as it is a game feature that I've wanted to see in the vanilla game for many years.

Oblivion had the DLC castle and Priory which I adored. I have been hoping to see much more of this; namely the ability to capture random forts in the wild.

Does this mean that we can inhabit these forts and fill them with companions? Can we have our own troops to defend these forts? Maybe make improvements to their defenses? Be responsible for their upkeep in monetary terms?

Any thoughts or insight from some of the more knowledgeable people on this site would be most welcome.

I'm assuming you are refering to the two achievements that were released related to this. To be honest I am a bit wary that this may not be a feature that we can just do willy nilly, and that it is directly tied to a quest(s) and you choose which side you are fighting for and then in the quest line you eventually take one of those forts. I feel that this is much more likely than being able to just capture any fort we want to. And honestly I think I would rather have the majority at least of the forts respawn the enemies so i could run them again rather than me having troops and such there.

Yes. The two achievements are what I am referring to.

I think you are probably right about it being just a quest. Even though that's not what I was hoping for in my heart of hearts it will probably be a cool quest line.

Maybe limit the forts you can capture overall and have them be pretty hard to maintain?

I remember in F3 there was the talon company fort .. sure there was no point to killing everyone since they just respond a couple days later .. at least the loot was good .. I see no reason they couldnt fill a couple forts up like that and have some sort of unique reward for each .. but I'm betting this is tied to some quest.

We share the same dream brother. What you propose is my dream, having to defend the fort from random enemy spawns, hire soldiers, outfit and feed them, patrolling your territory around the fort etc.

F3 did a pretty good job with their forts, better than Oblivion where 99% were derelict and full of random dungeon-ness.
