Awevalan
CHARACTER NAME: Sohto RyuujinRACE: HumanBIRTHPLACE: Ken'Vigard - From the multi-island empire of NegyaAGE: 25TITLE/CLASS: Samurai PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: BACK STORY: Sohto Ryuujin's true birthplace and time were uncertain even to him. Some believe he was not born within the realm of the Nine-Headed Dragon Throne, the Kuzuryuu Kurai*. Those who believe this think that he washed up on the shores of one of Negya's six islands and was taken in by members of the Ryuujin Clan, known plainly as the Dragon God Clan. Most believe that he was somewhere between 15 and 18 when he was discovered, half drowned, and sputtering about a great demon and a fiery dragon battling each other in some far off land known as Cyrodiil. At first he was taken as a prisoner to a small clan settlement where he was allowed to recover. Three days after this he was approached by a samurai retainer of the Ryuujin Clan's Daimyo. Without knowing how or why, Ryuujin greeted the man in the traditional style of the Empire and, more interestingly, that of the Ryuujin Clan. Some ten years later Ryuujin-sama, as he is most commonly addressed, was a samurai of unparalleled skill. Few but his fellow hatamoto would consider fighting him for fear of the dishonor and disgrace of defeat. At times Ryuujin-sama has taken on the role of hitokiri, or manslayer, and at others, that of the rurouni, or wanderer. Several years prior to his entrance into the service of the Ryuujin Clan Daimyo, Ryuujin-sama was a ronin, or lordless samurai, and claimed that he had been a samurai in the place known as Cyrodiil, the heart of the so-called Tamrielic Empire. He claimed that he had watched Cyrodiil crumble under the ranks of Oni, demons, from a hellish place known as Oblivion. More absurd still were his claims to actually be samurai or, at the very least, ronin. His skills and blade however, spoke the truth. He was Samurai. It wasn't until his 20th year that it was discovered he had been born to members of the Ryuujin Clan who had died in the attempted siege of Negya by the Empire of Teylon, a great continent to the northeast. Now 25 Ryuujin-sama is a dedicated retainer of his lord and considered by many to be a master of the katana. Alone and in the military motions of the clan and the empire he has brought about change. The peasants look to him as their immediate leader for he rose from them to become an uncommonly powerful samurai. DESCRIPTION: Ryuujin is mild mannered and generally doesn't speak much. His default is actions rather than words (ie a decisive sword in a conflict or a human barrier between foul wordsmith and victim). He, like all samurai, is honorbound and follows Bushido. His mastery of battoujutsu, quick drawing strike/slash and the katana and its techniques is without match in the Ryuujin Clan. He is as comfortable heavily armored as not and so is a force to be reckoned with. Wealthy from his time in Cyrodiil he chooses to carry little of it with him and instead helps the hyakusho (peasants/farmers) as well as maintain peace wherever he goes. Rarely does he stray from his lord's edicts but when he does he will pursue his goal until it is complete or he has died. Ryuujin makes friends fairly easily and grants his trust until you give him reason to doubt you or your judgment and will likely kill you in the blink of an eye if you dishonor or betray him. He is not a fan of long drawn out sword fights and instead prefers to have it over and done with as quickly as possible. Able to run long distances almost no matter what he is carrying Ryuujin usually carries his battle gear and the equipment to repair it as he is an accomplished smith. He may, if he believes he is indebted to you, forge you weapon and/or armor of your choosing but he reserves the right to take it back should you mistreat or misuse what he grants you. Physically Ryuujin is unimposing and knows only the mystical arts of Restoration so a mage is his downfall unless he is wielding one of his legendary blades (these that he does not always carry simply because of their immense value...he does want to avoid unnecessary slaughter whenever he can). INSPIRATION: Largely Ryuujin (whose name was entirely coincidental...who'd have thought I would manage creating a character whose name was the word for Dragon God) was inspired by Himura Kenshin, rurouni and ex-hitokiri (sort of) from the anime show, Rurouni Kenshin. Besides his similarities there Ryuujin was born from my own fascination with the Samurai and, in particular, to create the perfect Samurai class for Oblivion. What I ended up with was a heavy-armored warrior with blade in hand and technically shield though I roleplay him generally without unless I really want to train block. Also don't worry I made the heavy armor switch to light armor and then to hand-to-hand so there is heavy samurai, light samurai, and samurai without armor....all called samurai just with different ids in my Ken'Vigard mod where I will eventually import my player character, Sohto Ryujin.
