Making New Models

My point is it's not technologically necessary, it's not as though the hardware couldn't handle it, it's only necessary because for some reason nobody's made (or released) a simple and efficient way to do it with ONE program.

You'll never convince me that hopping across 7 programs is the best possible way to make one 3D model.

It sure isn't the best way. In my (very limited) experience though, even AAA studios outsource modeling work or don't even have an in-house standard. You pretty much always run into conversions through the entire pipeline one way or another.

Once there is a one-stop shop for free, seems likely most people would move to that.

In an ideal world, we'll have plugins for all our software. Until then, we'll have to make do with workarounds. Besides, if you started with Blender, the workaround isn't too bad:

Make model

Export as FBX

Import to Max

Export as .NIF

Fix up in NifSkope

The importing and exporting from Max takes like 2 minutes max.

Does it work for armors too ? Does the weight transfer correctly ?

I can make 3D models and I tried to make custom one for Skyrim but it was such a pain to export it from blender that I gave up x)

I want to try again with fallout 4 though

[edit]

Found this tutorial :http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Creating_an_armour_for_Fallout_4._Part_1

Looks quite in depth, but it still looks like it's pain to export from blender to CK. Worth a try though.

I wonder if using outfit studio make the process a bit more straightforward (I know it can use .fbx files)

If you use FBX, it preserves the weight. I took advantage of that, and ignored most of the stuff from Part 2 coz it was long. Exporting from Blender to Skyrim was relatively easy: all you had to do was change a few flags and it was good to go. I'm gonna find back the method I used to easily do it.

I still need to learn how to do armor weighting and all that for FO4.. wonder if there are any good guides on that topic yet. Have no experience in armors.. should be interesting.

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned using the 3ds max NIF exporter provided by bethesda, for Blender...? And seriously got it working? It was designed for 3ds max 2013, 64-bit.. and from what I had read / seen it didn't even play nice with other years of 3ds max, I wouldnt expect it to like blender either.. huh.

Yeah I still can't do anything useful in Blender. I honestly don't know how anyone does.

It's like someone ate too many buttons, and ended up vomitting them all on my screen...

Same could be said for any program, really, especially one you're not familiar with. I started learning Blender around 6 years ago, and I've only started becoming good enough to release stuff without becoming embarrassed by it. That being said, it used to be much worse: 2.5+ was a godsend.

Nah man, I figured out AutoCAD in a month (years ago to be fair), Sketchup in a few days. Blender is just a mess by comparison.
