Oblivion external project

This isn't exactly a mod, and currently it's just a thought, but here goes : I'm a game programmer and I have written my own game engine. Since I don't have any modelers working with me (either they left, were enthusiastic about gamedeving for 2 days, or just looked at my site, didn't liked it and thought my engine was crap) . Anyway, what I want to do is make a game demo in my engine using Oblivion's textures & models. I can't say that it's going to look exactly like Oblivion, but as far as graphics go, I'd want to achieve that level.

To accomplish this I need someone to extract the game models, import them in 3D Studio Max, and fix any modeling or texturing errors that the Nif exporter might produce. For the town/dungeon building blocks I would need someone to arrange them in a 3D Studio Max Scene to look like a town/dungeon again (since this type of editing was made in Bethesda's Construction Set, for Oblivion), not necessarily the ones from Oblivion, but that's fine too.

Hate to break it to you, but what you want is illegal. You cannot use resources from Bethsoft within your own engine. Anyone who sent you models would be commiting piracy since there is no proof that you have, and have paid for the game. There are plenty of open source models available. If your goal is to replicate Oblivion, your only hope is to contact Bethsoft's legal department and inform them exactly what you want to do, and why they should let you. In short, trying to do something like this will only get you fined, shut down, arrested, put in jail. Oblivion is not open source, the models and textures are covered under the license of the game.

I reiterate:

Whatever protection is provided for works copyrighted in Romania...

From what you've described, it's minimal. So, the same minimal protection would apply to works from other countries.

However, don't try hosting it on a server in a country that has effective copyright protection.

P.S. 'Bragging about'? I voiced no opinion about the desirability of said treaties.

Just to make it clear. You admit to wanting to steal the work of someone else to pass off as your own, or so that others don't have to pay the original creator of that work? I don't care how back water your country is, that is just plain dishonest, and you should be jailed for it. Bethsoft's license applies to any country where they sell their product. If you are in a country that they do not sell in, you are using illegal software. Regardless, you trying to take their work will still cause them to take an interest in your actions, and even if it takes 3 years for your 3rd world (or atleast as you describe) courts to catch up, it will still catch up. Moreover, anyone who did help you would be an accessory to the crime, and could face their own charges. There is this thing called international copyright law. It is made to prevent people like you from doing what you intend to do. A company like Bethsoft will certainly catch wind of your actions, and shut you down. Your local law enforcement will certainly want to cooperate since they don't want an international issue to occur, and for Romania to be seen as a haven for software piracy.

Simply, of all the really stupid things you could be doing. This is up near the top. You do not blatently steal from a large multinational corporation, you will lose. Anyone who is willing to help you would be just as stupid. As this topic essentially suggests that it's ok to steal content, it does not even belong here, and the admins may want to report you, and your IP to the proper authorities. At the very least, your ISP may discontinue service and notify your local law enforcement about your activities. Or are you going to try and convince us that your country is so behind that you don't have any law enforcement?

To quote your constitution.

Article 10: International relations

Romania fosters and develops peaceful relations with all the states, and, in this context, good neighbourly relations, based on the principles and other generally recognized provisions of international law.

Article 11: International law and national law

The Romanian State pledges to fulfil as such and in good faith its obligations as deriving from the treaties it is a party to.

Treaties ratified by Parliament, according to the law, are part of national law.

If a treaty Romania is to become a party to comprises provisions contrary to the Constitution, its ratification shall only take place after the revision of the Constitution.

Article 16: Equality of rights

Citizens are equal before the law and public authorities, without any privilege or discrimination.

No one is above the law.

Article 19: Extradition and expulsion

No Romanian citizen shall be extradited or expelled from Romania.

By exemption from the provisions of paragraph (1), Romanian citizens can be extradited based on the international agreements Romania is a party to, according to the law and on a mutual basis.

Aliens and stateless persons may be extradited only in compliance with an international convention or in terms of reciprocity.

Expulsion or extradition shall be ruled by the court.

Article 23: Individual freedom

Search, detainment, or arrest of a person shall be permitted only in the cases and under the procedure provided by law.

Article 54: Faithfulness towards the country

Faithfulness towards the country is sacred.

As your country participates in Berne, TRIPS, and WCT. You would be in viloation of international law. You may also want to curb your anti-nationalistic sentiments. While your country does allow freedom of speech, your words may be seen as being disloyal to your country.

I don't pretend to know your country, but since it has a constitution, your words about how bad your country is, are kinda hollow. Even though those lawsuits may last years, they will eventually come, and you will have to answer for them.
