trouble with the mod manager

Recommended Posts

So I recently lost my internet for a month and just recovered it and when I goes to the nexus mod manager, all of my F:NV mods are disabled. Naturally I tried to reactivate them but it just pop for a fraction of a second the loading and close. So I can't reactivate my mods for F:NV.... and when I recovered my internet I downloaded the update for the mod manager and it changes nothing. Any help or answers is appreciated. :)

NMM should be creating a "trace log" such as "C:\User\<YourAccountName>\Documents\Nexus Mod Manager\TraceLog20120517224203.txt", where the "20120517224203" is the date and time stamp of the log. That should tell you what sort of error it is encountering. Start with reading the NMM FAQ here.

My guess (based upon absolutely no other details at all)? In the month you were "offline" there was an MS update that got automatically pushed down to you when you reconnected, and it reset folder permissions, locking NMM out of a folder it needs to write to. If so, that will show up in the trace log as "access denied" errors. If, like most people you installed NMM into the default location of "C:\Program Files" folder, this is most likely.

In that case, the best overall solution is to read the "Installing Games on Windows Vista+" article in my signature, and move Steam (and NMM) out of "C:\Program Files". (Just copying won't be enough as that won't update the registry paths.)

Short term, you can try giving the account you play with "ownership" of the affected folders. But that won't stop the same thing from happening again.

However, note I said this was a "guess"; a "shot in the dark". It all depends upon where you installed Steam and NMM and what the trace log says.
