RAM Defragmenter

Thinking of seeing if MemBoost decreases Morrowind's crash rate, and I was wondering whether this is even worth a try.

 

Current version is 1.6 with Exe Optimizer applied, and I'm running MGE 3.0.3 (dx9-full), but not running MWSE.

Granted, I'm not an expert by any means, and have little to know idea what that program does...

 

I would be tempted to guess that it won't make much of a difference. The reason why Morrowind, and Oblivion tends to crash after a few hours is not because RAM is getting fragmented. It's because the game fills up the RAM, and cannot purge it to record new information because that RAM is still being treated as in use. Having mods decreases the space that can be used to store game information, so can make you crash sooner. You might have better results just in combining several similar .esps into a single .esm. But this is really an issue with the engine and how the game treats RAM. Unfortunately, the RAM usage within these games is necessary for allowing them to play as seamlessly as they do. In your typical game, areas which are loaded into RAM tend to be purged entirely after you've passed through that area. As these games have to maintain that information, eventually it hits a limit. The only real way to reduce the risk of crash is to save the game every few hours, quit the game, then start it up again from that save. This unloads the information stored in RAM, and then reloads only what is in use by the save, allowing new information to be loaded as you move through areas. Just purging that RAM with an outside program would likely lead to errors within the game due to improper cleanup.
