First off let start by say thanks to anyone who took time to read this.

 

 

I've been having this issue with distant rocks and cliffs flickering non stop while they are in their distant, low res form. At first I though it was drivers or simply that my new video card (Nvidia gts 450) wasn't compatible with the game since my old 8800gt ran the game without any of these issues, but I tried every set of drivers on Nvidia's website with no change. I've also tested Fallout 3, since it's based on the same engine, to see if it also had these flickering, distant textures, but it works flawlessly. If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix or at least limit how much flickering I'm getting in New Vegas, I would be very thankful. As it stands the game is unplayable to me.

PS. New Vegas looks fine in the immediate area around my character.

Hello Nova350

 

Have you reinstalled the game lately? This could be leftover files or changes to a previous ini.file. I had this problem only much more severe after uninstalling Project reality. Also search google for the problem maybe other nvida card users have had this issue.

I had the thought about the ini also, but I made sure to delete all left over files from the game after uninstalling and reinstalling it the last time before making the video. I've been googling the problem for the last week and have found a few people experiencing the same problems that I have. There only seems to be a small number of people with the same issues, and no one knows how to fix it. I'm almost to point of reformatting my computer to see if that fixes it, but I wanted to try here first. Also the problem persists if the game is on the lowest graphic settings or the highest.

Same here, First time I installed, it was pretty ok, but after a mod made me CTD all time, I had to re-install it and the flickering began since then. There's one thing that I haven't tried(not counting the format) that is unistalling the game, then going into the registers and delete any entry related to the game, but only do it if you know how to do it, or you will end up formating your pc.

Guys! don't be disheartened all these problems can be fixed or worked around. After all

you only have three options

 

1: Learn to use the utilities available ( I will help Alli can)

 

2:Don't use any mods (most problems are mod related)

 

3:Or switch to the console version

 

But the rewards of being able to get all this new content for free and play at settings set to max. It truly is an adventure worth while :dance:

Hi fellas,

 

I'm new to the forum and not much of a technical guy, but I think I found a piece of the puzzle that may be useful in solving this problem. First off, I am having a similar problem with distant textures. It seems to happen right where I would say that they become mid ground textures (if such a thing exists). See wen I stand on the mountains and look at new vegas, all the buildings in the background flicker. It's like they phase in and out of high detail to low detail and back again. I tried hundreds of things in the settings and couldn't figure out anything that would help except switching to LOW preset detail.

 

Then I was tinkering in my nVidia control panel and came across a setting called negative LOD Bias or LOD negative bias or something like that. The help block below informed me that some programs use a negative LOD bias which sharpens the image when stationary but introduces aliasing when the image is moving. I know this sounds like I'm babbling but I'm getting to the point soon. So I tried messing with that setting with no luck. But it lead me to experiment, I climbed the hills of the Mojave to look at the new vegas outskirts one more time and low and behold the textures where flickering/phasing. Then I holstered my weapon and hit the zoom button on the mouse and to my surprise the flickering/phasing stopped. Only when I moved the view in this state did the flickering/phasing continue. I realized that there is a slight "head bob" built into the view screen and I believe that this is part of the problem.

 

Could Obsidian/bethesda used a feature similar to LOD negative bias only with AF which would cause the buildings, cliffs, bushes, etc. to phase in and out of high/low detail? Because I think that's whats going on with my computer at least.

 

Now that I said all that, like I said I'm not a very technical guy so I don't know what to do with the information I have. Any help would be appreciated.
