How to edit damage/armor values?

There are a great many armors and weapon mods out there that are fairly high quality and I have many installed in my game, however all to often I find that the stats on weapon and armor mods render them practically worthless. heavy armor gauntlets that give 18 armor value, light chest pieces that give 35 armor, swords that hit for 14, these things might be ok in a vanilla play through on easy but I use many difficulty mods (perkus) and frostfall, thus I never really get to use these things. Is there any relatively simple way to edit the armor/damage and warmth/coverage values of individual armor/weapon mods? This is probably a laughably basic question, but I have zero experience actually modding anything in Skyrim despite years of using mods made by others.

Things to consider:

1. The values given for modded items generally track with vanilla stats as that's what most games and mod setups balance around as a baseline. You also have to account for increases in values when you factor in perk choices and tempering options via the Smithing skill. If you're using something like a mod overhaul such as Skyre or Perkus these will generally have patchers that come with the mod download that are supposed to change all values to be in-line with what a particular mod setup expects so everything works together in a balanced way.

2. If all you want to do is manually change armor/weapon values it's easiest to open up a mod in TES5Edit and change them to whatever you like there - weapon damage, armor values, weights, etc. Can also of course be done in the Creation Kit, but xEdit is probably faster. There are numerous guides and tutorials in both written and video form all over the net so do some reading and watching if you've never attempted to do this before.

3. Frostfall support for warmth and coverage values when it comes to modded items is spotty at best right now in the current release. Chesko is overhauling the system for the 3.1 release that is getting nearer to release so you'll just have to be patient until then.

Appreciate the info, I had no doubt there must be guides out there but knowing TES5Edit is the best route gives me the perfect place to start hunting. Thanks a ton. I figured the Frost Fall stats might be buggered a bit, I don't mind waiting on the next edition.
