capitanpbejamin
Hey, I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed this- my graphics aren't the best, maybe about equal in performance with a radeon hd 6450. I have Intel integrated hd 3000 whatever, but it does the job. I noticed, though, that it wouldn't do HDR in Oblivion- I was trying to test how high I could go while staying above 45 fps the whole time (using FRAPS). I looked up fixes, and it turned out using d3d9.dll (which somehow tricks it into thinking it's a nVidia 7900 gs) not only got it to do HDR lighting, but also resulted in a MASSIVE performance increase! I can now max out the game at close to native resolution (my screen is 1280x800, I usually run things at 1280x720), minus the grass (which I don't really like anyway for some reason), and get framerates at or over 60 fps most of the time, with the biggest hit going down into the 30's. What is up with that? Seriously. I was NOT expecting that at all. also, since Skyrim uses a new engine, this DLL probably won't work there, will it? I'm hoping I'll be able to run Skyrim, minimum settings 800x600 doesn't matter as long as it will run.
Pronam
I doubt you will be able to pull that trick again. The issue with this trick (Which I have used in the past on my laptop for fallout 3) is that it relies on the coherency of the DLL with the data of your video card and the usage of it in the game. Skyrim will have a lot of bigger demands than oblivion. However, that said again New Vegas allowed me to use my internal graphics of intel without an issue but being slow. Skyrim might be on the very tiny edge of allowing it. But integrated 3000 is quite old, so I think it won't pass.
