Crash on start and messed up UI/Pipboy

Oh boy, where to begin lol. So, after letting my brother play my relatively heavily (~90 mods) modded game, he managed to absolutely screw it up. Upon returning to my game, elements of the UI were all messed up, as well as my Pipboy stopped working. Very detailed after this point, might do TL;DR

 

With the UI, i had a L-ish shape, above and to the left of my crosshair, with the bottom of the L vertical to my crosshair, with the long part of the L pointing to the left. Occasionally i would have another on the bottom right-ish corner of the screen.

My Pipboy also had problems, when the game would load. Rarely could i access the "Items" tab without the game immediately crashing. When i did manage to get into the Items tab, i could see the item lists, but everything on the right half (information about the weapon or item) is completely blank. At the time, i suspected that it might have something to do with Pelinor's Weapon Mod Menu. I was lead to this because i would get a notification stating that i had the incorrect version installed. So i deleted and re-downloaded the mod several times, to no affect, still getting the same notification.

After a short time of making do and playing my broken game, i decided to delete the game, write down all of my mods, and retry. So i deleted it all. Upon redownloading the game, and starting the launcher, i checked the Data Files tab and saw that i still had 3 mods downloaded, but not installed (Weapon Mod Menu, Caesars Legion Proper armor [which i hadnt used, found a more proper mod IMO] and The Mystery of vault 10), even though i hadnt downloaded them, and had only downloaded the game. I tried launching the game, was able to get it loaded, but when i would open my Pipboy, the first and thrid tabs worked, second now showed nothing at all. So i removed these mysteriously remaining files, deleted FNV again, and downloaded, AGAIN.

Now my game wont get past the loading screen. At all. Aagghhh!!! If anyone has any idea what to do, please help me, i cant play FNV and its my favorite game on steam.

 

TL;DR:

My bro f*#@ed my fallout, and now it wont even work as the Vanilla game, no mods whatsoever

Sounds like when you uninstalled you forgot to clear out your "C:\Users\<YourAccountName>\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV" folder. The game places your specific versions of the Fallout and Fallout_prefs INI files there, along with your save games. Try renaming the INI files first. Then if that fails move the "saves" elsewhere, delete that FalloutNV folder's content, and re-install again.

 

Since you have to reinstall anyway, please read the "Installing Games on Windows Vista+" article in my signature and move Steam out of the "C:\Program Files" folder if you haven't already. That one step solves many difficulties.

Next time, create a separate Windows account for your brother and let him play his own character. If you use a mod manager you can give him his own "profile" and he won't mess up your setup either. There are 4 listed and linked in the "troubleshooting" link above.

Thanks so much, my game is fixed now. also took your advice and moved Steam to "C:\Games" instead of "C:\Program Files x86" thanks again Dubious, never would've figured it out without you
