Patching Problem

Alright, well, I've gone through absolute hell to get Oblivion to work on my computer, including buying a new disc drive, two new flash cards, and downloading several patches and officially screwing up one computer so badly that it had to be sent into the shop for fixing.

I want this game to work. I want it very, very badly.

So far, it runs a-okay as far as I've seen (aside from little bugs here and there, but they're no big deal) but, when I downloaded the official OBLIVION PATCH v1.2.0416, when I attempted to install it, it refused to load past 0%, even after hours of letting it run, and often times simply froze after a few seconds and refused to do anything at all (other than force me to shut down my computer).

Can anyone give me some help on how to fix this? Normally I would just go without, but several (okay, many) mods I desperately wish to use require Oblivion to be patched, and yet I have no idea how to get it to patch correctly!

My first thought is that the reason it won't patch is because (due to my father, who bought me the game, being a cheapskate) my version of the game was bought via eBay for around $20 because my version is Russian. The box is in Russian, the installation is in Russian (the seller provided translations on paper, thank goodness) and I am trying to use the ENGLISH patch for the game, and I can only assume that they are incompatible. Worst of all, there is no Russian patch for the game.

Is there any way I can possibly fix this other than simply going to Best Buy and paying $50 for the English game, and then trying the English patch? Honestly, I suggested this to my father when he was attempting to make it work, and I have no problem with paying that much to get the game to work properly, but I was hoping for a way to fix it that didn't require me to spend quite that much.

I think there's a European patch, here (yes, I know the filename says UK, but it's also for Europe and Australia), that might be the one you need to use. I can tell you that the North American one (which is called the English patch, even though you need to use a different one if you live in the UK) won't work. If the European patch doesn't work, then you're going to have to contact Bethesda, and see if they made a patch which will work.
