b1sh0p
This has most likely been brought up before, but I think it warrants bringing up again, as I have yet to find a mod that does it, and to me it doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to implement. There are tons of useless parchments, quills, and ink wells strewn about cyrodil. Many times I find myself wanting to take notes, but I don't really feel like cluttering up my computer desk with tons of notes on Oblivion. Why doesn't someone make a mod that allows you to type notes on these parchments? When you open up a blank parchment, that's just what you get: a blank parchment. Why doesn't someone make a mod so that you can type (write) on these things if you have a quil and n ink well? Very simple idea, and it would be extremely useful. Or beyond this idea, simply add a section in the Journal where you can write your own notes. I don't really care if it's the parchment idea, or the journal idea, as long as I get some way of typing in my notes inside oblivion, instead of on stickies at my computer desk! b1sh0p
Alright, if not the parchment idea, how about the Journal idea? Would it be possible to add a section in the Journal menu for you to put your own writings? A place for notes? Even if it was something as simple as opening up the console and typing /notepad or something like that. I used to play StarWars Galaxies, and I believe that you could type /notepad into the chat bar and it would open up a notepad that you could use, and when you closed it it saved the info for you. It'd be nice if it was something 'in game', but even if typing /notepad in the console would minimize Oblivion and open a notepad journal for you to write in, the same file that would be opened every time you typed /notepad, that'd be better than nothing. I know that I could always just minimize oblivion myself and do the same thing, but it's not quite the same. It'd be nice to have this feature be 'in game'. LoginToDownload
Apologies, but unique, in-game writing in Oblivion is completely undoable. Even so much as having a book contain certain values of variable variables. The game is coded so that the contents of books are completely static. b1sh0p
Hmmm... That seems very odd. Oh well, guess I'll have to go out and buy more stickies.
Grumman
Having read some of the source code for the OBSE, I think it would be possible to implement something similar to what is wanted here. I'd have to wait until the end of the week before I can have a proper go at it, though.
Sativarg
Notes about locations can be made to the map. New Items can be made containing information as in the Guiding Beacons by GlassBoy Also, there is a Beacon Quill that you can use to write "Generic" notes with. Use the quill ingame to write notes such as: "Starting Point", "Already Searched", "Warning!", "Point of Interest", etc. There are 8 different notes you can "write" :) How can one bend the rules so the information is like a scroll or parchment? Hmmmm.....
LoginToDownload
I haven't downloaded it, but by "generic notes", just a piece of parchment with said note? That would just be accomplished with a pre-made note and AddItem or PlaceAtMe. I'm pretty sure that's the reason he had to keep the messages simple. TheTerminator2004
It sounds to me as though it adds a note to the map, kind of like a mapmarker... interesting. But it's still completely impossible to create a way to make notes in Oblivion, short of using OBSE to minimize the game, and open up notepad for you. As that would almost certainly crash the game on most peoples PCs, that isn't really doable.

You could then use another custom funtion based on the FloatFromFile which prints each line of the text file to the console.
Sativarg
Grumman said OBSE's FloatToFile would work. man I got to get up to date on OBSE. Thanks Grumman Did I miss the part where the user did not want to use OBSE? Just a bunch of things that come to mind. No order and no value blob of obvious stuff that woke me up last night.A new scroll mesh that has its own folder/s for textures. The scroll is actually read like the Ariana poster in-game???Then code a menu system to handle predefined text and symbols like a key pad. invisible NPCs can act as interfaces???OBSE,s code can facilitate texture swapping to the new scroll mesh. A quest/s can hold the text data for subject classes to be applied to the scroll.Any game info can be converted to image form for the scroll texture folders. Each page can have a topic/subject that is a placeholder or variable linked to a quest stage or topic.Several scrolls can be made into a book that works like display cases with pages that turn. The players journal entries can be plugged into the scroll/book.Some steps may require exiting the game and using a proprietary application but much good data could still be organized in-game and used right away(in quest form)?Remember please, I am no modder, just a pedantic pest with no life to speak of.
