Random CTD's, running 83+ mods...

***Issues completely fixed. Skyrim has been CTD-free since the date of my last post on this thread.***

Hey guys; first off THANK YOU for reading this. I will be as descriptive as possible as to my issues regarding my Skyrim experience.

I have been installing mods for TES since 2003. I have a VERY firm understanding of how mods, load order, LOOT, NMM etc etc work but I am NOT a guru of everything which is why I am here...

MY ISSUE(S): I have near 100 mods installed and have followed (as meticulously as possble) all of the install order/patch/load order/compatibilities lists SUPER closely. Now, I am getting random CTD's while playing. Sometimes I can't load a quick save after and have to resort to loading an autosave or manual save. Also, as a secondary issue, Skyrim seems to be unable to access all of my VRAM (despite SKSE ini tweak) and will load purple/black textures randomly which is fixed by saving and reloading at main menu.

MY PC: Windows 10, i7-4790k, 2 way GTX 970's, 500gb SSD, 16gb 1866 RAM, 850w PSU. Only a slight overclock on GPU's, doesn't affect other games.

Other info: Skyrim is installed to C:\program files(x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim, running latest game version, running ALL DLC, NMM, LOOT, SKSE

Hi

With your load list you are going to have CTDs. The frequency really depends the resources you have. Skyrim Immersive Creatures can make a cell a no-go area for up to 3 game days. All you can do is go another way. So with that mod alone you can get 3 CTDs in less than an hour, but it my not CTD again for another 12 hours. Mods like Wet & Cold randomly CTD as well.

You have the best CPU you can get for this game because it responds to individual thread strength. So know problem there.

2 970s should = no GPU stress & 4gb vram is fine for this game. I mention this because I have gotten the black & pink textures but only when my GPU is running over 90% most of the time(tested with SPM). That equals to an hour of playing at 4k with ENB & only managing 35fps. It takes 5 to 7 hours a 2650 X 1440. The only other time I got this with less GPU stress is when I was playing around with ugridtoload over 5.

This is with a old i7 2600K an 980 ti sc.

Excellent info! I'm going to deactivate Immersive Creatures and Wet+Cold....I can live without them for now. And yeah, Ugridstoload=9 was beautiful but I had to go back to 5 due to CTD's there...and yes, I started a whole new game ;)

Hi

They are booth still on my load list.

These mods are very ambitious & to me it is worth putting up with them. I have many more mods that can cause CTDs on my load list. But most only cause problems on weaker rigs. For example I have mods that can go nuts & spawn 20 or so wolves or spiders & in dungeons a 50 or more draugr. To me these are fun but I know that one too many spawns equal instant CTD.

My game is at the point that it will not run at all(CTDs) without the skse memory patch. It will also no longer play without ENB/ENBoost. It won't even load with ugridtoload over 5. But at one point could be played without any of these.

I also leaned that GPU stress is a major player when it comes to CTDs. Going from a 980 to a 980 ti I got 50% less CTDs on the same game. I use exactly the same amount of vram. The only difference is the GPU works a lot less. This happens with other Bethesda games as well.

Now I have gone from 2650 X 1440 to 3440 X 1440. With that resolution jump I am back to the CTD levels I got with the 980. To fix it I will be getting a GTX 1080 sc when they come out.

That's some really good input. I disabled those other 2 mods and still got random CTD's so I turned them back on. I can play for about 10-15 minutes and then no matter what I'm doing it will CTD. I could be walking outdoors where there's virtually no enemies aside from some wolves 50ft away and then BAM, CTD. Or, like a few minutes ago before checking this thread again, I was in the Riften Jail sneaking around. I literally found a spot to hide and wasn't moving at all; just watching a guard and then BAM, CTD. So indoors, outdoors, NPC/enemy spawns, none of it seems to matter. The game just gives up after 10-15minutes of play time so I'm constantly F5ing and just firing the game back up :(

I just wanted to say that for the last couple of hours I've been playing CTD-free by utilizing ENBoost and tweaking the enblocal ini to my satisfaction. Here's my enblocal settings if it helps anyone else with 4gb graphics cards...

I can't believe it, but I want to report 1 full week without a SINGLE CTD, purple/black texture or error. I've even ADDED a couple mods since the thread started since the game was so stable for 48 hours. After properly installing ENBoost and tweaking the .ini (from last post), I have resolved my issues and REALLY hope that this short-lived thread can help others!
