DreamingWolf
Hello again friendly people! I seem to be once more at a loss for explanation, so I'm hoping you all can assist me. I recently downloaded Maya 2009 and the Niftools plugin so that I could import Nifs. Everything was going smoothly until I edited the lowerbody Oblivion model a bit and then exported it. Now all lowerbodys in the game are invisible. Any idea what could be causing this?
DreamingWolf
Okay so, since writing this post I have figured out my problem. Unbeknownst to me, NIF files actually have "versions" for which other programs can use. If you save your NIF models or edits to Oblivion without first setting the correct version of NIF, it will appear invisible (maybe distorted, I haven't seen that yet though). To export from Maya, make sure you've got the NifTools plugin installed and are using, at the latest, Maya 2009. Then follow these instructions: 1. Go to File > Export All (I don't believe NifTools supports exporting single objects). Click the little box to the right of "Export All" so that the export options box appears.2. Scroll down until you find the "Export" section.3. Set the "NIF Version" to 20.0.0.5. This is the version Oblivion uses.4. Below that, set the "Game Specific Version" to 11. Oblivion also supports 10, so try both if you're having trouble.5. As far as I can tell, the check-boxes mean little, but there is a helpful article here about them: http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/Maya/Configuration6. Finally, I've heard that the correct safe-setting for "Maximum Number of Bones per Skin Partition" is 4. I hope this helps anyone else with exporting problems. If you have any questions, please refer to the Wiki first, but I'd be more than happy to try my paw at answering them.
