Colactic
Greetings!Lately I started to push the limits of what a good Survival build would be. To make it as efficient as possible I'm trying to avoid unnecessary excess stats that I don't need. One of the ideas that I had recently was using a Gatling Lazer and a Missle Launcher as my two default weapons. It's something I've used in other builds but this time I want to make it work in Survival. However, the issue I've come across is the way Gatling Lazers consume Fusion Cores. Does anyone know if any mod that forces Gatling Lazers to prioritize partially depleted Fusion Cores first over trying to consume a new one? Considering Fusion Cores now have weight in survival I don't want a ridicolous amount of them clustering my inventory, especially considering that the weapon itself, the missle launcher and it's ammo is going to be heavy enough as it is. That would fix your problem as it would make Power Armor the only source of Fusion Core consumption.

I personally don't trust player game balancing. Even though Bethesda themselves have proven to be unreliable in the balancing deparment I still trust them over that of other mod creaters. Honestly don't see how you are going to trust anyone's mod for what you want then if it involves some more advanced scripting to make it happen. The way to "solve" your problem is to increase the ammo capacity of the Gatling Laser as it has a capacity of 500 and Fusion Cores normal capacity is exactly 500 shots. When you add on the perks from the Perk Tree and the Bobblehead, it gives it a much higher capacity on the Fusion Cores which comes out to 1100 shots. That means that the Gatling Laser will shoot 500 shots from one Fusion Core and once it reloads due to its ammo clip size, it will then take the next fullest Fusion Core as ammo. It has to do with the specific script for weapons using this ammo type. The only way to fix this right now is to increase the Gatling Laser's ammo capacity to 1100. Might be game breaking by means of either balance or actually breaking the script of Fusion Core Ammo. When I get back from running errands, I will make the mod and link you to it. Shouldn't take long to do. Edited June 4, 2016 by Doom1991
robhartman9
Just turf the missile launcher and rely solely on the GL. That's what I do. 3 out of 5 of my characters never use anything else.

Well how about that, much appreciated. Will download soon and test it out, if it works like I hope then I will give my Survival Heavy Gunner build a go. I insisted on making one after seeing so many people saying it wouldn't work.

Pretty much you need at least a 6 strength character so you can gain more carry weight and invest in heavy gunner. Charisma is another key Special stat to have high that I found. Selling items for more is a good way to get things you really need, plus it helps with settlements in the local leader perk. I tested it out with the basics. Added 3 Fusion Cores to my inventory and shot them off. They dissipated after a full clip. Only had rank 3 of Nuclear Physicist with no Bobblehead.
