firsTraveler
I wasn't very handy with the Skyrim F3 CKs but I'm going to try again with some stuff for F4. Is there a way using either the CK or FO4Edit to rename vanilla assets? ex: changing "Stimpack" to "nano mend kit" Would it be as simple as using the CKs search feature to find the item and changing its name or would that just mess up vendor (ect..) dialogs. Not to mention NPCs that would still ask for stimpacks? Would I be better off just making a new item and adding it to some leveled lists?
demonofsarila
Both CK and FO4Edit can do that. There's a name field in the items like stimpaks. Edit: As far as the more complex stuff, such as message/quest your companion needs a stimpak for when they go down, you could edit those messages / that quest. You might just have to play it for a while and see where it pops up. I don't remember hearing a character actually say the word "stimpak". Making your own unique items would have the other advantage of avoid conflicts with other mods. For example I use an item sorting mod that renames the items (junk, aid, etc.) so that everything is organized.
