Eyeless NPCs

So, I haven't player Oblivion for a while. I install it, install Shivering Isles, then proceed to get a big collections of mods (see end) downloaded and installed, generally following dev_akm's guides. Bash it all up with Wrye. Cleaned up archive invalidation with OBMM which fixed up some problems like the missing UI fonts.

 

When I start playing, most of the races have no eyeballs. I mean they are totally not there. You can see the back inside of the heads. The races that still have eyeballs are "non-native": skyrim khajit, ainhi(?), mystic elves, etc. Oddly, stepping through the race choices has some "doubles". For example, I have skyrim khajit twice, once with eyeballs, once sans eyeballs.

 

How would I determine the culprit and what to do to fix it?

Messed up eyes happens when cosmetic mods conflict with each other. Look at the read-me files for Beautiful People, Facial Textures by Enayla, and whatever other mods you use that are designed to make people pretty. Sometimes they'll list other mods they can't work with.

If not you'll have to do a little checking. Make sure there are not two mods that do the same thing: if one mod adds eyes, make sure no other mods add eyes, even if the eyes are different. The same with new hairstyles.
