norli1
As the title says, has there been any confirmation by Bethesda, if the UK-version of Skyrim(PC) will be region-locked?Also, what about the languages available through Steam? Some games, like COD BLOPS seem to restrict the users to one language, despite being on Steam (at least in Germany). I would be grateful for any (official) news on the matter, since I need to know if I can keep my UK-preorder...
VBlackfang
There's been these two answers on Pete Hines's twitter: boxleitnerb Johannes Mattes@DCDeacon: Is there a region lock? I'm German and I want to play in English (most mods are in English), so I would import from the UK.22 Octin reply to ↑Pete Hines@DCDeacon Pete Hines@boxleitnerb I believe Steam lets you change your language? boxleitnerb Johannes Mattes@DCDeacon: You said, one can only play the German version in German? Did you mean retail or does that apply to Steam as well? Thanks :)22 Octin reply to ↑Pete Hines@DCDeacon Pete Hines@boxleitnerb I was referring to console. Steam works however Steam works. If you're in Germany, you know better than me how it works there I believe, none of them can be considered a confirmation, too uncommitted. I think, we can can only be certain after the release, unfortunately...

Well, I guess I will cancel the preorder for now.... I

Uzibeatle
Chee, in July of 1969 the USA landed men on the moon, then brought them back to Earth. It took NASA (and subcontractors) less than 10 years to develop the tech and skills to do so. Flash forward to 2011. It seems it is impossible for mankind to develop the tech to simplyprovide language packs to go with game x for people who want it in a language that is not English or theprevalent language for that 'region'. If the game maker has gone to the effort to already provide the various languages WHY THE HELLcan't this be done? Frankly, this old coot is baffled by this idiotic practice. Could someone with knowledge of WHY this is explain? Is it some Region Language Mafia? Maybe I'm a simple minded American living in , oh say, Outer Mongolia, I only understand English. Whythe hell can't that person in Outer Mongolia get the English language pack? Amazing.

Yeah! 8) I honestly have no idea; although it makes sense that this is feasible, since in Oblivion the "Sounds" were a .bsa. Seems like it would be a simple thing to put together (Disclaimer: <--NOT a programmer).

Seems like it would be a simple thing to put together (Disclaimer: <--NOT a programmer). That is likely so (and .esm for text). There can also be a problem of the patches though. The local russian vendors, for example, have been notorious for releasing patches for localized games several months later than the rest of the world - for that changing .esm and .bsa won't be enogh... norli1
For all the German fans who haven't heard: http://www.pcgameshardware.de/aid,851458/Skyrim-Wichtige-Infos-zur-Sprachausgabe/Rollenspiel-Adventure/News/ It basically says, you will be able to download the English sync over steam when buying the German USK/Austrian PEGI version! If you import the game (from UK e.g.) you "might" not get the German sync though. So that's that, I will probably just get the German version then. Edited October 26, 2011 by norli1
