xaliqen
Just wondering, if I hooked up my PS3 to my 1080p Panasonic TV with a HDMI cable, would it look similar (or identical) to the PC version? Absolutely not (assuming we're talking about a PC running the game on High or Ultra High settings). Even so, you should definitely use an HDMI cable in order to get the best image quality from your PS3. Edited October 26, 2011 by xaliqen
SickFak
It will have better resolution, that is 1080p (that also depends on if they actually make it full HD, a LOT of games on PS3 don't support full HD and are instead 720p)... But it won't be anywhere near PC in terms of actual graphical quality, sorry. Textures will be worse, no anti-aliasing etc. For easy comparison: while you can set the textures to "high" on PC, they will stay "medium" on PS3; you can set the draw distance higher (to the max) on PC, it will stay the way it is on PS3 (probably half of what you can set on PC), etc. But if you still haven't hooked it via HDMI, you should definitely do it, resolution DOES make that much of a difference... I talk from first hand experience. I own a ps3 since 2006 (or whenever it was released, don't remember no more), it is hooked to "sony" 40" full HD lcd TV via HDMI cable. I did play Oblivion on it, also Fallout 3 so I know what I'm talking about

Be forewarned, though, most games only run at 720p even if you have a TV that supports 1080p. So, if you connect everything with an HDMI cable and still see your screen switching to 720p when you play certain games, this is the reason why. Uzibeatle
What you gamebox guys need is some special cable if you want it to look as good as PC graphics. Here is a place to start for you to upgrade. High Quality Cable. Don't cut corners. http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AKDL1-Dedicated-Link-Cable/dp/B000I1X6PM Good luck, and good thinking there on knowing a cable is a good place to start looking for that upgrade. Kerghan
Hey guys, just been looking for some info about the console version of Skyrim, comparing the graphical elements of it to PC. Just wondering, if I hooked up my PS3 to my 1080p Panasonic TV with a HDMI cable, would it look similar (or identical) to the PC version? Thanks for your input. No. First off, unless someone says otherwise, the game isn't going to run at 1080p on consoles. It will most likely be 720p, and that small image is going to be blown up and artificially sharpened (upscaled) to fit on your 1080p TV. That alone is probably going to cause it to have a grainy, low res look. Next is the fact that they have to cut tons of visual elements to be able to get games like Skyrim to be playable on console hardware. Console versions of the game will have one or more of the following:*Low res textures.*Low draw distance on things like objects and grass.*Lower polygon counts on some objects. *Weaker (or in some cases nonexistent) shaders. For example, the game probably won't have any antialiasing on consoles, causing the edges of objects to look really jagged. Even after those visuals have been cut, the game is probably going to be capped at 30 frames per second (variable 40 if you're lucky) with slowdowns in detailed areas or when there's lots of action going on. Some people can't even tell the difference, but I notice these things and they really bother me. When I saw Skyrim's screenshots, I was blown away. Then I saw footage of the game running on a 360 and I thought to myself "what is this trash, it looks nothing like the screenshots I've seen." Then I found out later that the screenshots were from the PC version, and it all made sense. That said, console or not, use HDMI whenever possible. You get access to certain digital features that you don't get otherwise, such as (on PS3) the ability to turn on RBG Full and Super-White. RBG Full produces deeper darks and more saturated colors, Super-White is supposed to give the image an overall brighter look. Hooking your console up to a big TV with and HDMI cable is NOT going to make it look anywhere near as good as a maxed out PC version though. Paxan_1
Hi, short answer, no, the long one is written down by different guys here. Why not buying the pc version and connect it to the big screen, you can also buy a gamepad, so it is like playing the console game but with better graphic :)
Rennn
I have an ancient tv (luckily my pc is new and has a much better monitor, lol), and I can't believe how much better HD looks. If your tv is decent though, I don't know if HD will be much different. It depends on the game as well. MAG? Not good in HD (according to other people). LittleBigPlanet2 (a.k.a. the best reason to own a PS3, lol), looks really nice in HD from what I hear. Skyrim could probably go either way, but my guess is it'd look at least a bit better. scot
Well the difference I see on my ps3 games is when I plug to my TV in the living room the quality seems a bit better and the antialiasing seems a bit better too.But pc is still better. Rennn
Antialiasing won't be affected by definition. It will, however, have more pixels, so it'll look like antialiasing is better.
mdale13
Not exactly sure what you mean by 'better', but will the use of an HDMI cord add in all the higher-res textures, additional lighting effects and smoother models (which will make the PC version look better than the console versions, presumably)? No, those sort of graphical upgrades are dependent on the hardware running the game. All an HDMI cable will do is make the image that the game is already outputting more clear and better defined.
