killashoota
Hi everyone, i've been playing Oblivion for awhile 2 years ago, and i decided to buy it again (lost my old copy) I bought it yesterday, and i just installed it. So, my question is, should i put the bethesda patches for it? I read on some topics, that some of the mods are not compatible with the new patches...but i am concerning that the new mods that come out now, will need the new patches,no? I hope someone can help, and i am sorry if this has been asked again, i just didn't see it.
Sypron
It varies from mod to mod, and from modder to modder. Not all mods coming out from today forward will need "todays" patch, because not all modders use that patch when they MAKE the mods. You use whatever patch you want to best fit your mods needs, whatever they may be. Just check them to see what you need.
killashoota
The issue is that most mods i see (on the Nexus that is) don't have information about wich patch to use in the description...they only have information if they need another mod to be used. Now there is the dillema, to patch the game to the latest version, or leave it as it is :) I guess the best way to find out is by trial and succes/failure :P
Abramul
Not all mods made with 1.2 CS require version 1.2 of the game itself. For instance, the only OB mod I've released was made with 1.2, but I didn't have any problems when I tested it, even though I haven't patched the game to 1.2 yet. Vagrant0
The general rule of thumb is to only patch to 1.2 if you plan to use SI. 1.1 is actually the better patch for too many reasons that I can really go into. The issue with mods would be an issue regardless. There are both mods which work in 1.1, but don't work with 1.2 and there are mods which work with 1.2 but not 1.1. Most those who have been modding for awhile are aware of this, and will either make a mod that works in both, or make a note of any problem. Given all the problems 1.2 causes, even though I have SI, I don't have it installed, and still stick to 1.1 when I'm doing anything simply because if I ever release that mod, I'll want it to work for everyone. When in doubt, go with 1.1, since the number of mods you can't use are mostly just those which deal with SI content. Whereas 1.2 may not work with several of the older mods you might want to use.
