vadezlaus
Hello i have the mesh and textures for a mask i want in game, i have tried to no avail to get it in myself, the farthest ive gotten is making it appear in the preview window as a world model, but as a biped model it doesnt appear, there isnt any big yellow missing mesh thing, its just not there. so what im asking is if i can send someone the mesh and texture (a single mesh, and a single texture) if they can get it in game for me, i would be very very appreciative, i have tried following MANY tutorials involving nifskope and 3ds max but it just doesnt want to work for me
JDFan
For future reference when asking for something like this the best thing to do would be to post the mesh and texture on a file sharing service and include a link in your post --- that way someone could download it and see what was going on without having to respond and wait for you to come back - see the post and upload the file - figure it is much easier if the link is already posted than trying to track you down to get the files and if someone has just a bit of free time they may be able to look at it if the file is available but might be busy by the time they can respond and get a reply again.) Is the mask rigged and weight painted to the skeleton or is it a simple PRN attachment to the Head -- does the texture have a normal map texture made ? (you mention a single texture but to show in game every texture also needs a normal map texture so there should be at least 2 textures and not having a normal map will cause rigged models to be invisible in game since there is no info on how it should reflect light ) - does the texture and Normal map have Mip maps created (if the normal map was saved without Mip maps it can cause it to not render properly in game) Upload it somewhere and post a link and I'll look it over and see if I can find out what is wrong ( I have a bit of time this evening and probably tomorrow evening but if the link is posted someone else might come along that has more time also but if not I'll take a look when I get the time.) vadezlaus
I had added the skin modifier and weighted it to the head bone, but in this download it is not rigged, I did not know you had to have a normal map for the model, thank you for informing me, if you have the time i would be most appreciative if you could look this over for me https://rapidshare.com/files/2575820904/Predmask.rar

So will let you know what I find.
vadezlaus
how do i apply a normal map to the model? Ive looked but i cant find anything that isn't 30 pages long
JDFan
how do i apply a normal map to the model? Ive looked but i cant find anything that isn't 30 pages long THe normal map is automatically used by having it placed in the same folder as the .dds texture and naming it with the same name and adding the _n extension so the games knows that is the normal map for that texture -- (ie. MyTexture.dds would need a MyTexture_n.dds for its normal map) which is also why you should not use _'s in the texture naming unless you do so purposely (ie. My_Texture.dds would need a normal map named My_n.dds ) This can be used to advantage for making several color variants that all use the same normal map by doing the naming like MyTexture_black.dds, MyTexture_blue.dds, MyTexture_white.dds, etc all in the same folder would use the same MyTexture_n.dds normal map (just have to ensure you do not use any other special character after the _ -- since for example MyTexture_gold would be used by the game engine as a glow map for a texture named MyTexture.dds !! So you shouldn't use the _ unless you know what you are doing and take some care when naming ! I did a quick check and the Nif crashed my game at first but was able to get it in game by loading into Max - adding a Skin with full weighting to the head bone and reexporting -- Thing is with face masks you run into a few problems in getting them to look correct so need to know what you are planning on using it for. For example using it the way it was and setting it up as a tail slot item (so you do not lose your HAIR and Ears) results in the hair clipping through the mask (this can be corrected by adjusting the positioning and or scaling the item a bit - but there will most likely be issues on different characters with different hairstyles\ face shapes - could fix some of that by running the mesh through the conformulator and creating the file needed to have it adjust\morph according to the facial slider but there will still be some hairstyles that cause either clipping or look like they mask is floating in front of the face --- OR alternatively you could add a back portion to the model to make it closed so it could be used as a hair slot item and you not notice the hair\ear removal like most vanilla helmets or add a hood type cover to the backside. SO depending on the usage you plan there may be some adjusting needed. As a quick example - Here is a screenie of the mask adjusted position\scaled to fit my current character to avoid clipping on it : http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc189/JDFanning_bucket/predmask01.jpg I'm getting ready to leave for the game now but will work on it some when I get home -- Figure you'll also need a world model created as well and an icon -- do you want me to make them for you ? how do you want it setup as a hair slot (which would mean losing the hair\ears of your NPC - or as a Tail slot (would mean beast races would lose thier tail when using it - or as a Ring or amulet (would mean you might lose visibilty of seeing it if wearing certain armors\clothes that are set to Hide Ring or Amulets) -- Is it for a specific NPC or for all players (If for all do you want it placed to minimize clipping with hairs\heads by scaling it up some which may make it look a bit big on some characters ?) Let me know and I'll work on it this evening and send you a test nif for you to try and see if it needs some tweaking.
vadezlaus
if you could set it up as a hair model that would be great, its actually for the predator race mod, so i just took one of the masks from that to compare to this one and scaled it accordingly, if im right it should fit on the predators head just the way it i sent it to you, seeing it ingame...., i cant thank you enough for this, really, if you have the spare time for an icon or a world model thatd be cool, if its too much of a bother im sure i can manage it, again thank you. OK -- Here you go -- I made a quick test .esp file with it loaded in game (dropped on the ground near the statue to the right of the entrance to the Amelion Family Tomb) -- I made a new world model by cutting\pasting the model into a different Helmet ground nif and deleting the original helmet model. Also included a new inventory Icon -- the predator helmet is back to it's original scale and position so should be working for your character (if not send me a pic of it in game so I can see what adjustment is needed and I'll adjust it. (unless you want to do it) Let me know if there are any problems with any of it and I'll tweak it as needed when I have the time.
