Installing Mods OMOD for VERY VERY new modder.

Mercutio 713

Recommended Posts

I just got Oblivion for pc and i am learning to download mods with vista. I don't really understand computers (just found out what .txt and .esp mean.. still don't really know what .esp stands for really) anyway I got Wrye Bash (not sure what it's for but it was recommended), OBSE, and OBMM, but i still can't figure out what to click or how to unzip files to certain locations. I found myself manually moving .esp's and everything else in mods, (textures, meshes, etc.) into the oblivion folder (from winzip) and making new folder's as needed. If it helps the mod is Hircine's curse resurrected.

PS. I will not know what you are talking about probably until the fifth or sixth time so don't respond if you aren't very patient. I know a lot of computer basics so there is no need to be condescending explaining how to double click.

hi friend,

OBMM is a very good tool to install and uninstall mods to oblivoin.

If you downloaded a zip-file or rar- you can create a omod. This is the filetyp for obmm. Start OBMM and click on "create" on the right side bottom. A window will open and in the window you click on open archive. No you search for your zip/rare file and click on open. Few seconds or in case of big files minutes later you see in the omod creation window the ....-esp file. Now give a name for te omod and click on "create"in the creation-window. Few seconds or minutes later you get the message "Omod created successfully". Now you go to the right side of OBMM and search for the Name you gave the file. Doubleclick the name or singelclick and click on "aktivate". Now the mod is aktivated in game. If you later want to deaktivate only click on "deaktivate" and esp and all the meshes and textures are gone from the game.

Wyrn bash will inform you about load order and other conflicts or missing files much better then OBMM does. Therefore after installing have a look.

Obse isn't that difficult. If you have in game, only take care to start oblivion with a OBSE laucher.

Have fun

Follow the installation instructions in the readme files of the mods you install. If the file does not come packaged as an OMOD, then don't bother turning it into an OMOD at this stage. Just install it the traditional way. Later on when you get really good at working with Oblivion mods, then it might be worth your while learning how to convert mods into OMOD format. But for now, it would be easiest to just install the mods the way the mod-builders built them to be installed rather than doing anything fancy.
