MikyWrita
So i have a HP Pavilion laptop, with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit,Intel Core i5 CPU 2.27GHz,4GB Ram,GeForce GT320M 1GB.The problem is Oblivion goes about 20-25 FPS on Ultra High (without mods).I am just wondering what is the problem?I don't think it's the graphics card (cause it stays the same when i put smaller textures,it goes faster when i lower the fade distance,it goes about 30-40 fps),probably the CPU or Ram?Could somebody answer me?And what could i upgrade (considering it's a laptop). bben46
 Back off on those ultra high demands. While you do have a good computer, you don't have an ultra high computer. By giving just a little on some of the graphics settings you will see a consistent 30 or a little more fps, which is what the consoles get and what the game was actually designed around. Laptops typically cannot be upgraded - except for adding some ram you are likely SOL. MikyWrita
Thanks! But i have one more question. What is the reason oblivion runs slow (i understand my laptop isn't ultra high, but i wonder what is bad about the specs) is it the graphics or cpu or just ram...Cause there are more games that run slowly, example Unreal Tournament 3.Im asking mostly cause i want to run Skyrim on at least 30 fps outdoors.Would adding maybe 2-4GB ram increase my performance. bben46
The minimum specs were 2GHz for Oblivion, However, the recommended specs include a 3Ghz processor. That is a single not dual or quad like most computers have now. Remember, the game was designed to run on the computers that were available nearly 10 years ago, not the computers that were out when the game was first released. You cannot design for what might be available 5 years down the road. One of the things that changed when they went to multi processor computers was lowering the processor speed to make it run a little cooler. The idea is that with 2 or 4 processors doing the processing, four 2Ghz processors would be faster than one 3GHz processor. Unfortunately, you have to write the software to take advantage of that change in the way of doing things. Oblivion does have a few last minute changes that do work with the multiple processors, but not much as they were not incorporated from the beginning. However, Skyrim should have much more capability to use the multiple processors as they were becoming popular in the early design phase of the game - 5 years ago. Like everyone else, we have no clue what will really be needed to run Skyrim yet. For some reason people seem to think that we magically know exactly what it will take to run at max settings even though we have never run the game. Adding Ram will probably give some improvement, but being realistic on video settings will have a much greater impact on FPS. That built in video subsystem can only run so fast. And adding RAM will not make it run any faster.
