"I gave an exemplar of something great he added in his preview. He described a battle that was very informative on what it would be like to play the game and how some of the mechanics and environments interact. This is awesome. This is a good preview. And do to that he didn't need to tell me the name of the dungeon, the name of the NPC he was fighting with, how he accepted the quest, where he accepted the quest etc. All of which he included earlier and I don't think are appropriate."

Also slander is making a false defamatory oral statement. I'm not sure how I did that. Nor am I sure how I was being immpolite. I gave no ad hominom attacks. I was blunt about what I thought was good and bad about the article and what I would prefer to see differently.

Not "slander" then. You're right. Wrong word.

Just try not to cut-down people when they provide a courtesy. Okay, buddy?

The word you are looking for is "libel" lol.

But yeah in all seriousness, A game preview is not gonna be someone telling you technical stuff and the NPC is a NPC who at least in Oblivion was always in a different place, so he really didn't spoil anything. The lover quest has been talked about in several other previews from the same press showing, and the golden claw quest is in the 3 part game play footage that was released. So no major spoilers where said. Also just a heads up, criticizing someone that did something they really didn't have to and was nice enough to ask the community here for suggestions, no matter what your motives is going to catch you some flak around here..especially with your minimal number of posts, prior to this thread.

But for Dave, that was wonderful I noticed you mentioned the Jim Cummings npc which made me happy because my suggestion was to search for Jim Cummings lol. I was really interested in how you were talking about your companion being immortal when I seem to recall other reporters saying their companion died...perhaps they ment unconscious though. All in all a terrific read and well worth the wait. Great job man.

Oh, I have a question for you ripten: What did Oakflesh actually do?

If you don't remember the exact stats that isn't a big deal, I'm just curious if it was an actual +Armor buff, if it lowered damage by a set amount, or was a shield that would disappear after taking a set amount of damage (100 points, etc...). I'm mostly asking because the spell system is so very different in Skyrim then the previous TES games and I'm really curious how much stuff will stack.

Main thing I want to know is if Oakflesh actually made any visual changes to the player (Like, did it cover him in armor made of oakwood? etc..)

I thought this preview was going to be different than the dozens of others. Unfortunately for the most part it wasn't. Mostly just a play by play of the individual's experience. We don't want to hear about your story. We want to hear about the game.

The worst part was the massively blatant spoilers such that I had to stop reading. That didn't stop me from catching a glimpse of the massive map spoiler with arrows pointing to where you can find a certain NPC.

When will those in the industry lucky enough to get this opportunity realize what people want out of previews. You talked about how you can use environmental effects during battle. That's what I want to hear about, thank you. But please spare us the play by play, especially after you criticize others for doing just that. And for the love of God please leave out spoilers.

Believe it or not, previews are not written specifically to cater to existing fans and provide a stream of features for them to analyze. Generally, the publisher allows the press to play it in order to spread buzz about the game and increase pre-orders/sales; if you're already planning to buy the game but want to know more anyway, that's unfortunate. That's not the author's fault.

The only "spoiler" I can think of is Ma'iq, and he's already been confirmed in other previews around the same location; what else were you referring to as a spoiler? Doesn't that include the other game features you were requesting? Isn't the nature of a preview to spoil small parts of the game so people want to see the rest?

Dave was kind enough to field questions from us in the week leading up to his visit...if you'd been here longer than 3 posts, you'd have had the opportunity for which you were looking. It's selfish and ungrateful to assume he'd write some sort of tell-all specifically tailored to what you believe "people" want out of it, and it's very rude to chastise him when he's spent so much time and effort on these forums keeping us informed.

I don't see anywhere in my post where I asked for a listing of stats or a stream of features. You are putting words in my mouth.

I simply want a preview of the game that doesn't involve 1) another play by play of one individual's experience, or 2) spoilers.

I gave an exemplar of something great he added in his preview. All of which he included earlier and I don't think are appropriate.

You may think I'm being rude. That is certainly not my intention, I simply wanted to give an honest opinion.

Perhaps I exaggerated for effect, but there's no need to nitpick my wording. I could tell you that I never used the word "stats," but that's beside the point. Bottom line: you didn't read what you wanted or expected, and decided to criticize Dave for writing a preview like all the others. It turned wrong when you decided to tell him "what people want," which comes off condescending to the author and insulting to the rest of his readers.

1) "A play by play of one individual's experience" with the game is a preview. Without the personal experience, it's just the aforementioned list of features. "You can ride horses; there is this perk for Light Armor; oil catches on fire." Not a very good read.

2) Spoilers are also part of a preview; if you don't want new info about the game, don't read previews before it comes out. If the author leaves out spoilers, you really do have a preview just like the others: "I went to Riverwood; I did the golden Claw quest; I fought a big spider."

Do you see the contradictions here? I probably wouldn't have replied if you'd been a bit more polite in your original post, but I'll take your word that the rudeness wasn't your intention. Now I'm just confused as to what you actually wanted.
