Glossy or shiny textures, and i need help

I can understand that this might have been discussed already in another post somewhere. I tried googling for two days now and most of the posts i read, have instructions that just seem way too confusing because they all have different ways of doing so. What I want to do is take a body mod from fo3 and put it on a custom race for fallout new vegas. I know how to increase the gloss in nifskope, but i have no idea how to do so with textures. I'm available to use photoshop or gimp, instructions for either one would help. Thank you so much in advance.

And in case you still dont understand what the problem is, ill make it short and sweet. I want to make a body texture glossier/shinier.

No problem at all! :)

Open the Normal map of the texture (the file that ends with "_n.dds", for example femaleupperbody_n.dds) in photoshop. Now (usually in the bottom right corner), go to the alpha channel. Any changes to the alpha channel of the normal map will affect the glossiness of the texture. Black areas won't reflect any light in game will white will give you a kinda oil-soaked look. Try filling the alpha channel with a medium grey and take a look at it in game!

Thanks for the help. I realised I was actually doing it right, but the problem is, is that when i go to save the file, it says Could not save the dds file or w/e because of a program error :wallbash:
