Maps keep disappearing

Update II: Ok, well, I got back to playing, everything was happy-scrappy, but I got to thinking about my problem and my solution and what fixed it. Dark UI is a great mod and I really want to be fair. So I just wanted to add a few bits of information:

 

1) The other people who reported map problems with Dark UI reported them on installation - I didn't have this problem come up until long after I installed it (and all the other mods I have going).

 

2) Reinstalling JUST DarkUI didn't solve the problem.

 

3) The following mod's textures/meshes/etc are the ones I recopied into the Data directory (which solved my problem)

a) Dark UI was first

b) then a combination of esp-less mods (Beaming Sunglare, Captnkills Non-Tiling Texture, Chargen with numbers, Cyrodiil Terrain Map, Elven Map Redux (icons only), Koldorn's Cave/Sewer/Ayleid Ruins Textures, IDFU, IFVM, Shipyard, Nonatees Colored SI map, and a couple of other creature/food/item retextures), NONE of which should have affected the problem.

 

Which is why I just said "To Oblivion with it!" and went back to playing, because I just can't figure out what I fixed!

 

Like I said earlier though, it's just a philosophical discussion now. But it bugs me.

Sounds like a three-way tie between DarkUI, Cyrodiil Terrain Map, and Elven Map Redux (icons only). I'm not really sure how you could prevent your issue in the future, but making a \Data\ directory with just those three in it could help you fix it when it happens. You could also try using a different "color map" replacer or you could try Map Marker Overhaul which I believe comes with Elven Icons and a number of other features. It's a bit of a nuisance to set up as far as it's "more immersive blah blah blah" settings but I haven't had any problems with my Darn UI, Color Map Mod, MMO combination with hundreds of hours logged between myself and my girlfriend.

Thanks! I DO have a Data directory as you mention... several in fact, all the mods I have are broken down by load order and grouped accordingly in a backup directory, each group with its own Data directory, fully extracted, ready to just copy and paste into my Oblivion Data directory (I'm not anal, just had too many reinstalls with OOO and finally got smart about it!) I'm not particularly attached to Elven icons, I just like the different colors :). Anyways, one of my mods (Landmarks, I think) mentions in the readme that it conflicts with MMO, so I haven't tried that yet. If the problem persists, I may just do a switcheroo.

 

Ok, banghead part (ignore if you wish!): If Cyrodiil Terrain Map and Elven Map Redux icons are just textures, how can they cause problems? Aren't they basically read-only? Never modified by the game, I mean? I admit that I am vastly ignorant of how textures really work, and how they are applied in-game. Just curious. After all, I CAN fix it. And if it's not the actual textures themselves that are the problem, but how they are applied, then I'm back to DarkUI causing the problem. Like I said, banghead!
