I have two problems

1: I got fallout 3 GOTY today on a two disc version and i dowloaded the first disc fine but when i put the second disc in (Persumbably the one with all the DLC's) the install thing didn't even come up and i cannot figure out why. P.S i have windows 7

2:I cannot access my data folder to install mods for some reason i had vista before and had a fairly easy time downloading and installing mods, however i had the steam version wheras now i have the two disc version. Does anyone have any clue wats going on

I'm guessing when you say downloaded the first disk you actually mean installed?

I ask because my answer is for if you actually have the 2 physical GOTY disks and are installing from them, not the steam version that you download.

I believe I have the same issue with my GOTY disks. After trying everything I could think of, and I work in the tech field, I thought it was a faulty disk. So I returned it and got another set that had the exact same issue. Anyway to make a long story short, after again running through everything I could think of, including flashing my system and DVD bios and disabling autorun among other things, I ended up buying a new DVD thinking it was a limitation with my style of DVD. So after replacing the DVD I again installed the first disk with no problme, and thinking this time it would work placed the DLC disk in the drive and Bam, frozen. I was so pissed I decided to take a break to get a little perspective and when I came back the DLC disk was installing.

So what I believe happens is that they have some kind of strange pirate/copy protection on their disc that takes some DVD players awhile to resolve. Now, when I re-install I am used to it but what happens is I place the first disc in and it installs quickly and normally. Then I place the DLC disc in and it basically freezes my machine for 5-7 minutes before it starts to install (the time seems to vary) but eventually it starts to run and ends up installing just fine.

Don't know if waiting will work for you. Just telling ya what I go through everytime I install, even on my new machine.

Good luck - Mal

Hi,

they put all DLCs into one large Installer file, that is the problem :)

To make it faster, open disk2 in explorer, copy that install file to your harddisk and start it from there.

Regarding your other problem, reinstall Fallout to an location other than "Program Files", use something like c:\games\fallout3 for example.

The Windows UAC is protecting everything installed in the "Program Files" directory, this is probably the reason for your troubles.
