adding custom attack animations in the GECK

I'm making some custom attack animations but I haven't been able to find how to attach them to weapons. (I'm focusing on hand to hand and melee weapons mainly as this will help with a mod idea I have.)

I've found the idle animations pop up box in the GECK but that doesn't help me at the moment.

Is it something to do with when I export the anim with Blender? Do I have to attach it to anything prior to export? Any advice or a link pointing me to a tutorial I've missed in my searching would be welcomed.

I know there are a whole bunch of animation mods out there but I want to make my own as it will be a great learning experience and plus I'll know that I've got the ones that I want.
