Dungeon question

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere. Will dungeons in Skyrim repopulate after they have been cleared like they did in Oblivion? If so, will the creatures be the same level as they were previously or do they get recalculated based on your current level when you reenter?

Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, the enimies in dungeons get their level set the first time you enter a dungeon. I've seen this posted in multiple places, but I cant recall what the link is.

I really hope they respawn once you've cleared the dungeon. Otherwise the world will empty very quickly. And if they respawn to do it at a higher level. Maybe it would be like you never entered the dungeon in the first place. Their level to be re-calculated the second time you entered it (after you have cleared it once and after it has respawned with enemies)

From what I've read - the dungeon's level is set at a range when you first enter it in 5-level increments. You enter at level 1, it'll be set from 1-5. You enter at level 18, it'll be set at something like 17-22, or thereabouts. It will probably reset on the 3-day in-game days - however, the level of the mobs/treasure inside will not scale up if you go back to a lower level dungeon at a higher level. This was done to answer one of the main criticism of Oblivion and it's level scaling.

Hmmm, not sure how I feel about that. Sounds like I'll need to make sure not to enter too many dungeons at a low level, in order to have some left to be populated with high level monsters later in the game. It does seem like an improvement over Oblivion, but might introduce some new issues as well.

Thanks for the info!

I'm pretty sure that dungeons will still adjust with the level of the player, but have a minimum and a maximum range around the player. The main world will use a mostly static spawning system so that the levels of things in one place won't suddenly get harder as you level.

Keep in mind that Skyrim is not a level 1-30 game like Oblivion, but rather a 1-100 game. Meaning that the difference between level 10 and 15 spawns is marginally small but would serve to add variety. The game will also apparently track what dungeons you've been to and what was inside before deciding which dungeon to send you to as part of a quest so that you probably won't be sent to areas far below your level except when just randomly exploring.

Very well said.
