Do you like oldtimers

So, do you like oldtimers, and why? I like them a lot, especially bikes. I like to buy an old one that's literally falling apart and restore it to it's original state. I love the sound of a 40 year old engine working perfectly after I assemble it, although everyone else said I should throw it away, that it can't be repaired. It just makes me feel proud.

A lot of people say that I'm crazy, they say I should throw my bikes into scrap and buy some new ones. But I don't listen to them.

Also, do you own an oldtimer? I've got 5 of them, all bikes. They are in the spoiler, If you want to take a look at them.

I've got a 1971. Tomos Automatic N (Laura)

Here's a pic:

The bike behind it, under the sheath is a disassembled 1978. Piaggio Vespa PX125. I still need to replace a part of the engine block.

I've also got a 1961. Benelly Minibike, don't know the model.

Here's a pic with my dad sitting on it:

Then I've got a 1973. Austrian Solo Motorbike, don't know the model. I don't have a pic since It's currently disassembled and sent to be painted.

And I've got a 1967. Puch Pony Express.

@mythicdawnmaster I once repaired a Rolls Royce, that thing has one of the most stabile engines I've ever seen. Perfect ignition, perfect engine balance, I started the engine and it didn't even tremble. I was amazed by the performance, not the speed or power, but the sound, a clear stabile rythm of a 12 cylinder engine. A music to my ears.

Do you know what's better than a bike? A new bike. :D

I kinda like them, but I do not think I would like to own one, sounds like a lot of trouble and additional expenses.

@elvinkun Well, you don't spend a lot of money on an oldtimer if you know how to repair one. It's basic mechanics, nothing hard. However, you will probably spend a year, maybe even more on disassembling and then reassembling it again untill it finaly works perfectly. It's not like the new bikes where you rip out a part and replace it with a new one. When it comes to oldtimer, it's more of a "invent your own parts". For my Tomos I had to make a new exhaust, patch my fuel reservoir, disassemble it completely, grease the bearings, clean the carburetor, clean the fuel lines, adjust the ignition, invent some parts for the clutch, the engine was blocked so I needed to unblock the piston, change the seals on the engine block, and the list goes on.

All in all, it's more work than money.

@mythicdawnmaster There are two things I like about ferrari, and speed isn't one of them. It's the sound, the roar it makes when the engine hits 8000 rpm and that "silencer" it has releases the full power of the engine on the exhaust. And the second thing is the curves, they are strong and sharp, like on every racing car, but they have a touch of beauty, somewhat reminding me of old cars before WWII. Ferraris are rare here where I'm from, only rich 16 year-olds drive them, and mostly they die on the highway. I've only seen one, not counting the pictures, and that one got destroyed. It's a darn shame cause it was a beauty. Edited by Werne

@mythicdawnmaster I actually drove a Lamborghini. 400 GT, I was tweaking it for racing on Grobnik (nothing illegal). That's the first racing car I ever sat in. Leather seats, wooden dashboard and steering wheel, freshly painted, all chromed parts hand polished, I was literally drooling when I saw that thing. I was to tweak the rpm and increase the acceleration. After I was done with it, it exceeded my expectations. It was able to accelerate 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds with a maximum speed of 340 km/h. It's one of my favourite cars, a real beauty. Here's a pic of the 400 GT, the one I worked on was dark red.
