Sanbru
It won't use DX10 or DX11 features, which is quite sad. But since that functionality is there, I'd say probably 1-3 months before there's a huge graphical overhaul that adds tessellation and many other graphic wonders. True, but not sure what the folder is all about then. http://s7.postimage.org/dhu19vy8p/Capture.jpgOfftopic:Could you make a screenshot of the data-folder? :) You know you can preload it yourself, if you have it on Steam. Not sure if you do. http://s9.postimage.org/nt7wn93od/Capture2.jpg
Thor.
Look at this article it confirms it, it does support dx11 limited though. Witch means its not a direct port          http://www.tomshardware.com/news/The-Elder-Scrolls-Skyrim-Todd-Howard-RPG-DirectX-11,12495.html Edited November 9, 2011 by Thor. Delikatessen
Off topic: Sanbru, thanks for the screenshot of the Data folder. Now, seeing that it looks almost identical to Oblivion and Fallout 3/New Vegas, that means it will probably have the same mod functionality! :D Back on topic: If modders do for Skyrim what they did for Crysis 2, the first man to do this gets his bar tabs paid in full for the rest of his life. Delikatessen
Just wondering, can I pre-load on Steam if I am buying a physical copy? Or is it just for people that pre-order on Steam? Skyrim uses Steamworks, so you'll need to register the physical copy on Steam. So yes, you can preload it with a physical copy. But since you have the physical version, you should probably install it rather than preload it.

Nebrule
after seeing what modders can do with graphics in games like crysis and gtaiv, i have no doubt that they'll do the same for skyrim... hopefully
anandus
Yeah, the fact that (apparently) it's using DX11 (or DX10), but not utilizing it, gives a lot of room and possibilities for something like a Skyrim Graphics Extender or something like that :)
RejectedCamel
DirectX 11 is a closed API, so I doubt people will be able to just add in tessellation - I think it has to be hard-coded into the engine. POM was done in the OBGE because it was calculated at shader level (which is why it affects performance so badly), but it doesn't modify the geometry at run-time like tessellation.
