4. Under automatic updates, switch to "Only update this game when I launch it".

Ok, so my next question is....

how do you stop Steam from reverting that setting back to 'always keep this game up to date'? :/ Cause it is doing for me, everytime i restart my pc.

Never experienced that problem. You could try to see if your Steam settings are read-only for whatever reason, which tends to be the source of that kind of behavior in my experience.

Ahh, i'll have a look around tomorrow see if i can figure out how to check that. I only searched a bit today trying to figure it out, but i do remember someone saying they had fixed it by deleting a user folder or something, so yes...maybe something is a bit funky in there and i need to refresh it. I'll look more thoroughly now i know it's definitely not supposed to be doing that. Thankyou!

This is kinda silly as the whole point of F4SE is to launch it through the F4SE shotcut to begin with :pinch:

Not sure what makes this silly since the main point is that you can prevent Steam from auto-updating.

The reason I emphasize launching through F4SE is because if you try to launch through Steam to, say, change your graphics settings using the splash screen, it'll auto-update on you and you're stuck on the latest version.

I've run the game through F4SE, already in the middle of a game and have had it shut down because of an auto-update...changed it to Update only when launched(which stayed by the way) and then had it do it to me again(with the last 3 minor updates, which fortunately didn't break F4SE)...so there's definitely some shenanigans going on here as well.

I came on the forums today only to notice a lot of frustration that Fallout 4 had updated and as a result broken F4SE.

Why are you people even using F4SE? They haven't implemented any script extensions yet :|

Because F4SE isn't just for Papyrus script extensions. You can write plugins for F4SE that are significantly more powerful than what you can accomplish in Papyrus.

A popular example is the Place Everywhere mod. Another would be the Achievments mod that re-enables achievements on modified saves. I don't know about the former but with the latter there's absolutely no reason for the mod to use script extensions. It can do what it needs to as a plugin.

Point is F4SE isn't just for extending Papyrus functionality.

This takes some effort (you have to remember to do it every time), but whenever you boot your computer, open steam IMMEDIATELY and pause the update. I've been doing this every day since the patch was released and can still play the previous FO4 version with FO4SE.
