Game Stop Pre Order Question

So I just recently got the money to pre order Skyrim. But I didn't bother to try and pre order it until today since I was very busy yesterday. Now I find out that in store pick up is not available FML. I really wanted to play the game on day one and have the physical map like I did with Oblivion but now it looks like if I want that map then I am going to have to wait for it to be delivered by mail. Why the hell did they have to make a pre order be necessary to get a map (screw you gamestop)? Anyway I was wondering if I pre order it now and have it delivered would it arrive on release day or would it not ship until release day and I would have to wait a few days? If I ponied up an extra 10 bucks for overnight shipping would it arrive on release? I have a feeling that I am just going to have to give up on the map and just pick up the game. I would rather have the game sooner minus a map than have a map but have to wait a few days more. But I really want that damn map :wallbash:

Don't blame GameStop for your procrastinating putting down just FIVE dollars towards a pre-order. It can't be that hard. And GameStop is only a retailer; It's Bethesda's decision to make it necessary to pre-order to get a map, it's their game, their rules. And rightfully so. As far as if you'll get the game on time, it comes out in two days, that's really riding the line. There are other options besides GameStop, obviously, but I had thought it was pretty clear that a pre-order bonus was an incentive to order it well ahead of time. I had already understood that you can't pre-order so close to the release date, but, I might be wrong. But I don't feel bad for most of those that wait until the last minute only to find out they can't do it.

Well if the map is what you are concerned about I believe it was on Pete Hines twitter but it was confirmed that all copies of the game no matter when you get them have a map in it. It's just that you get a higher quality map if you pre order. If you just want the glossy paper kind like in Oblivion then you will still get one no matter when you get the game.

Don't get fooled with pre orderings.

I pre ordered Skyrim 3 months ago, payed two month ago and today I got the message from my retailer that Bethesda delivers at the end of the next week what I have ordered (I live in a german speaking country and wanted the english version I hate german dubs in movies and games).

So Bethesda got my money and what I want in time but simply decided not to deliver in time as was greatly announced. I learned my lesson! The publishers don't want preorders to allow them to plan and I will never do it again.

I preordered early this year. Last day I was told It will be delivered sometime next week.

Canceled.

Found midnight sale.

Lost map and shirt.

It's all about THE choice I guess.

Ok ok easy man. Didn't mean to strike a nerve with anyone but looking back at my post I am not surprised I did. I didn't know that you could put 5 dollars down on a pre order and pay the rest later (I assume thats what you meant, still pretty new to pre ordering myself since with my tight wallet I am not usually given the pleasure of buying a game on day one or even in the same month of release). I also didn't know that the game comes with a map either way and that the pre order one is just a higher quality. So I will just pick it up in the store come Friday.

Yes I am an oblivious idiot who should have known better.

I also take back what I said about Game Stop and have nothing against them or Bethesda. I completely agree with you that Bethesda has the right to do what ever the hell they want with their products. I guess I was just frustrated that my check didn't arrive on time. lol you would think a 20 year old who has spent so much of his life up to now playing video games would know better but this is only the second game I had planned to pre order and I never really read up how pre orders work other than the fact that its just a way to buy the game before it releases.

Ah no biggie. So are you okay with getting the paper one? Unfortunately I don't think your chances are high of getting the cloth map on top of it all, but you'd have to look around to find out.

Yeah I am ok. The cloth map would be cool to have but the paper one will do just fine. As long as I am able to yell Fus Roh Dah aloud in my house as I wander the magnificent lands of Skyrim with my beautiful dark elf wife (who will probably end up dead on one of our adventures XD) on 11-11-11 I will be a happy man.

As a former Game Stop employee PRE-ORDERS ARE IMPORTANT! Game Stop's company policy, regardless of reality, lives and dies on pre-orders so they, along with the developers and publishers really push those reserves and the bonus content that comes with them. However, all of the initial copies which arrive at the store probably will have the cloth maps, future copies won't.

Now when you said there is no in-store pickup are you referring to the online store? That is completely different then a game being available in-store. If this Game Stop store is halfway decent there SHOULD be a midnight release where you can pick it up If not then it should be available the next day. I'd call and talk to the manager to see/clarify exactly what is happening, available, and what your options are.

Personally, I think you'll get the game quicker from a store then via mail.

P.S. Game Stop is absolutely ridiculous about their reserves. Make sure to reserve a new release to get the bonus stuff AHEAD of time... Game Stop employees WILL hold it against you if you didn't.
